Edward Sweeney Obituary

Edward Sweeney
EDWARD BERNARD SWEENEY
Edward B. Sweeney, 80, of Cass City, died Monday, July 10, 2023 in Heritage Hill Assisted Living, Caro. He was born at home in Sheridan Township on December 7, 1942 to Malcolm and Mary (McIntosh) Sweeney. He married Janet Irene Greyerbiehl on April 7, 1962 in Bad Axe. She died December 16, 2013.
Ed worked as a dairy farmer and continued as a crop farmer for many years. He was a member of the Green Acre Landscaping and Midnight Owls bowling teams. Ed enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing, polka parties, playing horseshoes, and euchre games with his family. Saturday afternoons were reserved for watching sports on television and socializing with friends in his office shed, if the neon "open" sign was lighted. He was a member of Good Shepherd Parish, St. Columbkille Church and the Knights of Columbus. Ed will be remembered most for his huge smile. With his great sense of humor, he loved to tease and be teased.
Ed is survived by his nine children: Anthony (Susan) Sweeney of KY; Julie Hilts of Marlette; Terry (Colleen) Sweeney of Cass City; Jamie (Andy) Heineman of Sanford; Todd (Paula) Sweeney of North Branch; Troy (Laura) Sweeney of Davison; Jeanie Martin of Cass City; Janel Morgan of TX; Jody (Dan) Bolton of Kalkaska; nineteen grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren; siblings: Marie McNeil of Bay City; Don (Denise) Sweeney of Bad Axe; Ray (JoAnn) Sweeney of Little Chute, WI; Jerry (Sue) Sweeney of Charlotte; Bill (Kathie) Sweeney of Oscoda; Carol (Don) Baird of FL; Kathy (Dan) Cregeur of Bad Axe; sister-in-law, Hilda Sweeney of Bad Axe. Ed was very nice to me when I was a teacher in Ubly and married Marilou Ballagh, his neighbor. I saw him at the store and church activities and we even shared a beer or two. He will be remembered as a friend and neighbor by Marilou and I. So sad to see a friend pass.
