Arlene Joan Hudyma
Arlene Joan Hudyma, of Durham, CT, died unexpectedly and peacefully at Hartford Hospital on April 19, 2025. She was with her family at the time of her departure.
Arlene was born on September 20, 1940, to Paul Kolonicki and Blanche (Stefanski) Kolonicki and graduated from New London High School. She grew up on a small family farm in Chesterfield, CT where she learned the virtues of love and hard work. The family used to rise early before school to pick strawberries for the market.
She is survived and missed by her loving husband of 61 years Thomas; and her children Russel and his wife Jennifer Matthews and their children Jackson and Jillian of Alamo, CA and April Cannata and her husband Michael Cannata of Cromwell, CT; and her sister Doreen Care and her husband Nestor Care of Cape Coral, FL. Arlene was predeceased by her parents and her brother Paul (Butch) Kolonicki.
After their wedding in 1963 Arlene and Thomas moved to Central, NY (Syracuse area). After their children were born, she enjoyed skiing with the family and swimming and picnicking on the beaches of Lake Ontario and growing her flowers. She was especially fond of her house cleaning business. Arlene supported April's love of horses and made sure she had a horse. They went to many equestrian events with the Limestone Pony Club. Arlene was very outgoing and made many friends wherever she went. She was a tiny bundle of energy and determination.
She moved back home to CT in 1987 and settled in Durham; where she decorated the house and constructed large rock gardens by gathering and placing several tons of rocks. Arlene also had a koi pond with a waterfall built and enjoyed taking care of the fish and her pond. She restarted her cleaning business and with the help of school and her son, learned computer logistics and developed a keen interest in the stock market. She took golf lessons and became an excellent player, taking first place in a mixed league. She also had several full-time jobs but quit her last one to look after her parents.
Arlene often traveled to CA to visit, especially after her grandchildren were born.
Arlene lived a full and productive life and wants to be remembered for her love and devotion to her family.
