John L. Forneris
John Lawrence Forneris, 81, of Portland, beloved husband of Hilda (Hricay) Forneris, died Saturday, November 6, 2021 at his home. He was born in New York City, NY, son of the late Magnum and Ann (Chanowky) Forneris. John attended Cardinal Hayes High School, Manhattan College, and Fordham University. He began his career at Vandenburg Air Force Base in Calif. working in the missile program. He then worked for IBM in East Fishkill, NY, as a senior engineer for 34 years. His work involved chip design and process engineering and led to him being recognized for his outstanding contributions and as a great mentor to many young engineers. While a resident in Union Vale, NY, John was involved in his community as a volunteer firefighter. When he moved to Connecticut, he became a member of the Rotary Club of Middletown and of the Knights of Columbus. John loved his faith, studied and became a Lay Dominican. He also enjoyed tutoring English As A Second Language to students at the Holy Apostle College and Seminary in Cromwell, CT. John is survived by his wife Hilda; children, Karen Coughlin and her husband Jim of Portland, CT, Stephen Forneris of New York City, Susanne Vleck and her husband Bradley of White Plains, NY; brother, James Forneris and his wife Mary Ellen of Sparta, NJ; sister, Barbara Minogue of Northport, NY; and five grandchildren, the greatest joys of his life, Emmett, Sophia, Liam, Sydney and Samantha. His Funeral Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, November 9 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, 79 South Main St., Middletown, CT. Burial will be on Wednesday, November 10 at 11 a.m. at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. John hired me into IBM as an engineer and I've remained in semiconductors ever since. With just two conversations, John convinced me that I should work at East Fishkill and for him. Please accept my condolences.
