Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Jordan Matthew Byrd US Army Private 1st Class.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

Today is Veterans Day. As I approached the Field of Honor in Taylorsville City, the first flag and marker I came to was Jordan's. With tears in my eyes I pondered the very special relationship between our soldiers. You see our son was the pilot who for the very last time flew Jordan to Bagram. Circling the base once and then off into the twilight. He will never forget. We will never forget.

Jordan you are absolutely amazing. I'm so glad I had the chance to know you. Thank you for welcoming me into your family and making me feel like a million bucks every time I saw you. You TRULY are a hero. You touched more lives in your short life than most will that live to be 100. I'll never forget the awesome hug you always gave me when I saw you. I love you Jordan! not a day goes by that this gets any easier, You were the light of all of our lives! You brought a presence into any room you walked into, with your confidence, smile and unconditional love. You tried your hardest not to let us worry about where you were going. made sure we would all take care of Savanna and Ayden. You lived more in 19 years than most people will ever do in a lifetime. I love you so much and Miss you so much every single minute of every day.

To the Byrd,Brost, and Pitt Families: As a former "Currahee" medic, serving in VietNam I share Jordan's loss. The cost of war is dear especially to the families that take the impact of this loss. I attended Jordan's funeral and was especially "choked up" when Jordan shortly before his last mission had made the comments "my guys" to his cousin back home.Medics are a unique breed of soldiers. Please be aware that our prayers are with all of Jordan's families, friends, and former "currahee" brothers during the days, months, and years ahead. Jordan exemplified what is good about being human. God, rest his soul. Nicholas Miller, former medic,1/506th Bn,C/Co,101st Airborne Division ('67-'68),(Utah "Currahee" Liason)

Roberta,

Remember what we talked about on 13 October. He was doing important and good things, he was making a difference for those who need our help. He didn't need medals to prove he was a hero, his actions did that. You raised an amazing young man and it was my honor to carry him to his final resting place. You are in my thoughts.

I didn't know Jordan but he is the definition of an American Hero. He did what many of us would never do, selfless service to his fellow man and country and today he sits with our Heavenly Father. And to his family: May the Lord bless thee and keep thee; the Lord make his face shine upon thee; the Lord lift up his countenance upon thee and give thee peace. God bless.

Thank you for your unselfishness and serving and protecting our country for our freedom. You are a distant relative through the Christley side. My dad is Clay Barton. What you did was so courageous and you paid the ultimate sacrifice. You are a hero in everybody's eyes and especially in your son's eyes. We wish you the peace that you deserve. Our thoughts and prayers will be with family always. You will never be forgotten.

What an amazing young man. I know he was cherished in life and will be cherished in eternity. Life is so short and then its our turn to get called up and then we can get on with the good stuff of immortality and eternal life and the Lord's rest. That is what Jordan is doing and he will be preparing your home in heaven and being a medic to mend men's souls. We will be praying for your family for a good while and thinking of you all. The Lord will send special blessings to you for the sacrifice He has asked of you. Keep your faith in the Lord and not the arm of man. We love you.

Today I was at Overlake Elementary School in Tooele volunteering in my son’s kindergarten class. Before they did the Pledge of Allegiance, a lady came across the intercom and announced the loss and funeral for Jordan. She asked for a moment of silence (which lasted about a minute or two) to remember his sacrifice. During that time, I reflected on the time I served in the Marine Corps during the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003 and realized how lucky I was to be able to help out in my son’s class, but at the same time felt deeply saddened that Jordan would never get that chance. Though I never met Jordan, I wish his family the utmost peace, love, and happiness only God can give. I am so sorry for your loss, God be with you and bless you.

Thank you for raising such an outstanding son! I never knew Jordan but have been very touched by his story of selfless sacrifice and dedication. Jordan has paid the ultimate sacrifice to help protect this country, its citizens, and the freedoms and liberty that we enjoy each and every day.

October 22, 2010

Jordan continues to be an example even in death! We didn't know Jordan, but heard his story on the news last night and it deeply affected myself and my 16 year old daughter. His love and dedication to something that he believed in is an example to even those that didn't know him. Today my daughter is playing her last home volleyball game with Jordan's name and John 15:13 on her hair bow! She wants people to know that he is her HERO! and mine as well!
Thank You and God Bless you!

I just wanted to say what I wonderful young man that Jordan was. I only met him once but he left a lasting impression and I never will forget his smiling face. I met him when I went to my grandson Tyler Hartman's Boot Camp Graduation. I took a picture of the two of them and talked to them both. He and Tyler became fast friends when they went through boot camp together. I just want to say how brave a person I think Jordan was. He was a wonderful young man and will be missed. To the family of Jordan Byrd. Jordan was in the same unit as my son, Sgt. Richard Anderson. Richard talked about the people in his unit before he was deployed, and remarked what a great group of men they were. Jordan sounds like he was an exceptional young man, and I am sure he will be used and very valuable where he is going. I am impressed with the courage of his family and wife, and want to express my deepest condolances to you all. It has to be very rough. We, parents of military soldiers, appreciate and understand why people serve in the military, and realize that is what has enabled us to live the way we do (free!). Thank you for raising such a fine young man, and please know that there are many who recognize and appreciate these fine young men's service.

As I look threw the obituarys today I came across a very young brave man I wanted to see what kind of a person he was so I decided to read some of his messages friends and family had wrote to the family and as i read I found not only family but complete strangers had done the same, I am one of those stangers. I am so so sorry to hear of another young solgier that has died for our country I would like to tell you, your son sounds like a very brave man. That he is a hero who gave up his life to save others, you as parents and spouse should be so proud of him. I know I am, even if I didnt know him. I know you will have hard times but just remember there are people outside your family who care, and your son will never be forgotten, and you know he has a great big smile looking down on you from heaven. He is and will always be your gardian angel you should be so proud I know I am. I would just like to say thank you for raising such a wonderful son, and if you ever want to talk to someone I would love to listen. I know im just a stranger but I do care! God bless you all. I know you can hold your heads up high knowing what a wonderful son and hero he is. Bev Lowry,

Still many just don't understand
About the reasons we are free

Jordan Byrd is no longer here
but his words are oh so clear
As they echo through out our land
For all his friends who gave us all
Who stood the ground and took the fall
To help their fellow man

All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
So when you think of HIM
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all

I did not know Jordan Byrd, but I am surrounded by many who did. To Jordan & your family "Thank you" HE GAVE HIS ALL

Love your country and live with pride
And don't forget those who died for you and me.

I will never forget you.
God Bless

I am so sorry for your loss. My husband, brother, sister, two brother-in-law and several cousins have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, one cousin (from American Fork, UT) was killed in Iraq just over three years ago so seeing the pictures of your family receiving PFC Byrd home brought back sad memories. I salute you for your sacrifice and I want you to know that you are in my prayers and thoughts. His sacrifice was not in vain because the example he has set for all of us will live on forever - that there are things worth fighting and even dying for.

<3 Love you Jord!! RIP.

Jordie! There is are so many things I want to say right now.. But I will keep it short. First off I want to say thank you. Thank you for being the brave self of yours and doing what you did. That was nothing new though, because you were always helping people no matter what. You are one of the most amazing people ever Jord! You were always the best friend to me. I am gonna miss our talks, your jokes, your funny little laugh, your big contagious smile, your enormous hugs that you would squeeze me so hard with, just being around you. You made everything so much better all of the time. Sooo many things I am going to miss. But I know that you wouldn't want me to be sad or crying, you would want me to be laughing and smiling. I wish my smile was as bright as yours so I could brighten everyone's day the way you did :) I love you so much Jordan Matthew Byrd, you are my hero... Dear Byrd family,

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Jordan will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render PFC. Jordan Byrd. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jordan. And to Jordan it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jordan, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,335 military Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jordan’s family and loved ones.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I just read Jordan Matthew Byrd's Obituary. Such valor and commitment for such a young man. His eyes just speak volumes about innocence and honesty. I wish every member of Congress, the Senate and Executive Branch would look into this young man's face and eyes and match his resolve and commitment to this Country. He looks like a boy, but was more of a man than many of them will ever be. God bless Jordan's young wife, son and family. Truly an all American boy and an American Hero. Mothers teach your son's about Jordan Byrd. My niece and her husband are part of the Army family and very good friends of Jordan and his family.

I had the honor of knowing Jordan while working at the DPG Health Clinic (2003-2009). He was an exceptional young man and friend whom I will always remember. As a former 101st Airborne Division Combat Medic (HHC 1/327 INF, REG 1992-1994), I am very grateful for Jordan's sacrifice and proud to have served in his Division. There are no words to express the profound sadness I feel with hearing of his passing. Roberta and Scott, please accept my most sincere condolences for your loss.

I don't know him, nor have I ever met him but I have the utmost respect for this young man. As parents, we strive to bring our kids up like him. If I was in his community, I would name his school after him. This HERO teaches us about how we should live our life. He has lived a life in honor.

I barely knew Jordan in High School because I was two grades above but I remember him being a good kid. This saddens me especially since I am married to a Marine who has served in Afghanistan but I am thankful for our soldiers' sacrifice. Without them, we would not be as blessed as we are. My blessings go to his wife and family through this difficult time and God bless you, Jordan.
