Richard Scully Obituary

Richard Edward Scully, age 77, died peacefully on Oct. 25, 2010, in Wilmington, N.C.
Born in Middletown on April 19, 1933, he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Butler) Scully.
Predeceased by his sisters Margaret and Patricia, he is survived by his brother Robert Scully of Portland, Conn.
A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Ann Treadwell of Higganum. They had four children, Cynthia of Wilmington, N.C., Rick of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., Brenda of Colchester and Shaun of Beaverton, Ore. He served his country by joining the United States Navy during the Korean War. Richard began his life long career in tool and dye after graduating from his apprenticeship at New Departure Manufacturing in Meriden. He continued his career working for Raymond Engineering and Pratt and Whitney Aircraft of CT. In 1978, his expertise in tool and dye led him to San Diego, where he worked for Solar Turbines Corporation. After retiring in 1998, he moved to Cottonwood, Ariz., where he enjoyed exploring the mountains and deserts of the Southwest.
Richards's pastimes included traveling across the country, riding his motorcycle, scuba diving, boating and raising dogs. He will always be remembered and missed for his love of life, sense of humor and entertaining jokes and stories. He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughter Cynthia and fiance' Steven, daughter Brenda and her husband Edward, son Rick and his wife Lynn and son Shaun. He leaves his loving grandsons Andrew, Craig and Branden, granddaughters Briena, Bridget, Ashley and Alexis, great grandson Christopher and great granddaughter Natalie and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations should be made to the charity or organization of your choice. A private family celebration of his life will be held in Connecticut at a later date.

I only knew Dick for a short time in the tool room at Pratt & Whitney and I remember him as a true gentleman and was extremely helpful to me as I came back to the Toolmaking trade after an absense of several years. Great guy and I am sorry for your loss.
