ROSE DiMAURO FAZZINO

1933 - 2017

After a lifetime of devotion to her family and friends, Rose [DiMauro] Fazzino, a truly gentle and loving soul, passed away at home on May 9, 2017 surrounded by family. Rose was born on November 7, 1933 in Melilli, Sicily to the late Vincenzo and Carmelina (Fazzino) DiMauro. As a young child, she experienced the occupation of Sicily by the Fascist regime including a vivid description of a visit by Mussolini to her small town and the subsequent liberation by Allied forces. Memory of those dark times would foster her great support for her new country as she became a proud US citizen. She would meet and marry the love of her life, Frank Fazzino, in Melilli, Sicily and emigrated to the United States in 1950, settling in their new home, Middletown CT. With Rose's and Frank's help they were able to bring over her mother, father and other family members to begin a new life together. Rose worked at EIS in Middletown for many years and maintained many long term friendships long after she retired. For a time, she had her routine at the YMCA, volunteering at numerous schools church and civic events including the St.Sebastian's Feast and making perogies with the St Mary's ladies every spring for the Easter holiday. Her culinary skills, well-honed by her Mom, created amazing dishes of seafood, pastas, soups, pizzas and a large array of ethnic specialities and desserts that were works of art. Rose was a strong, loyal woman of great character and with Frank raised two daughters that they were both extremely proud of. Her intelligence, sound reasoning and excellent judgement of character would serve her well in her life. The loss of Frank in 1983 was a difficult time for Rose but his passing put her on a new path where she blossomed into an industrious businesswoman buying and managing numerous real estate investments for over thirty years on her own. Her kind words and always good nature were the keys to her success as everyone always felt better after speaking to Rose. Everyone always had a kind word about Rose. She was one of those unique individuals that was too good to be true but true she was. Rose leaves behind devoted daughters Paula Halloran (James) and Lina Kronenberger (Brian) and her three cherished grandsons, Brian Jr., Jason and Frank. Rose also leaves behind her beloved sister Lucia and Gerald Guarino and her brother Joseph and Lucy DiMauro and brother-in-law Paul and Barbara Fazzino, as well as a host of loving and wonderful nieces and nephews with whom she shared much joy in this life. She was pre-deceased by her sister Concetta (Sebastian) Milardo, her two sisters-in-law Jane (Sebastian) Magnano, Anna (Salvatore) Santapaola,brother-in-law Joseph (Mary) Fazzino, father-in-law Antonino (Paolina Melluzzo and Angelina LoGuidice) Fazzino. Her family wishes to extend their heartfelt love and thanks to Rose's caregivers Ewa, Maria, Sophie, Julie and Middlesex Hospice. In leiu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the St.Sebastian Church Renovation Fund, 155 Washington St. Middletown, CT. The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Coughlin-Lastrina Funeral Home, 491 High St, Middletown followed by a mass of Christian burial in St. Sebastian Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
