William Calicchio Obituary

William David Calicchio
William David Calicchio, "The Bear", 62, of Cromwell, passed away unexpectedly on November 6, 2024. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late Andrew and Donna (Lastra) Calicchio.
Bear graduated Cromwell High School Class of 1981 and worked for Manafort Brothers as an Operating Engineer for Local 478 for many years.
It's near impossible to quantify the decades-long success Bear enjoyed in racing… With a style that was uniquely his own, his signature Bear Motorsports cars visited victory lane with many different drivers, at many different tracks, and in many different Series up and down the east coast. When not running his own equipment, Bear notched countless additional wins assisting other teams as a valued friend, crew chief, advisor, or team member. What also can't be measured, yet is undoubtedly apparent, is the positive impact he's had on the lives and careers of the many, many young racers he's guided over the years.
Bear is survived by his sisters JoAnn Davis, Donna Calicchio and Denise Lewandowski, and a brother Scott Nemit. He also leaves behind his beloved God Mother and Aunt Ruth Buchanan.
Bear had several nieces and nephews. He was especially close with Thomas and Valerie Zink who he lived with for several years.
Bear will finally be at rest with his Dad and Mom and eating ice cream with Teddy.
Bear will also go to his grave smiling knowing Trump is president!
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 p.m. at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call on Saturday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. To share memories or send condolences to the family, please visit www.doolittlefuneralservice.com.
