Winnie Elizabeth Knapp, 99, of Middletown, died peacefully on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Springs, Long Island, NY, 1921. Beloved daughter of the late Daisy Fillmore Deming and David F. Deming, Sr. She lived most of her life in Cromwell and Middletown. She was a graduate of Middletown High School, Class of 1939. She was the widow of Swan J.B. Swanson and Earle H. Knapp. She was predeceased by four brothers, David, Fred, Alfred, Robert and a stepdaughter, Judith Olson, of New Britain. Winnie leaves behind two stepsons, David Knapp and wife Carol of Durham, Kurt Knapp and wife Cheri of Middletown, a niece, Nancy Deming Squier and husband Walter of E. Hampton, a granddaughter, Kristen Blackburn and her family of Spring, Texas and many dear friends, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Winnie was formerly employed by Standard Knapp. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity. A fifty-year member of Lady Washington Chapter 45, OES. She was past matron of the order. A past grand representative of Connecticut to the State of New Jersey. A member of Sphinx Ladies Club and Aisha Temple #83, Daughter of the Nile, Supreme Council of the Amarant, Inc. Westwood Court #5. Past Connecticut Dept. President of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865.
Doolittle Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no calling hours.
Reverend Mary Barnett of the Church of the Holy Trinity, will lead a graveside service on Monday, December 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Newington Center Cemetery, Cedar Street, Newington, CT Donations in Winnie's memory may be made to the Church of the Holy Trinity, 381 Main Street, Middletown, CT 06457, or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
