I am so so sorry to the family for your devastating loss. Such a shock to everyone. Yet in times like these is when we have to rely on a power much greater than us for understanding. I hope that the family can do that in this very very difficult time. May God continue to be with you.

I am a former Massage Therapist who worked with many of the 49ers for 16 years. I have so many fond and funny memories of Parys! The one I’d like to share is the very first day I ever met Parys. It was in Santana Row at Straits Restaurant in the evening right when he signed with the 49ers. As I mentioned, I was a massage therapist for many of the team at the time and had strong, amazing friendships with all of my clients that I worked on.

With that being said I walked into straights with a few friends and saw a gentleman sitting at the bar eating a meal all by himself. The gentleman was wearing a Red hat , white t-shirt and jeans. He had his head down and was throughly enjoying his meal. Well, earlier that day I was hanging out with my friend Kevan Barlow, a current player from the team, and Kevan was wearing the exact same outfit earlier that same day. So when I saw him I immediately thought it was Kevan again!

I skipped right on over to the bar and gave him a big hug from behind and a kiss on the cheek and said, why are you sitting here all by yourself!?

Well. You can only imagine to BOTH OF OUR SURPRISE’S when I saw it was NOT Kevan, it was Parys, whom I had never met or even heard of at the time! Parys kind of froze up and awkwardly looked at me with one of those “what in the heck” faces Parys does so well, and said with kind of an awkward chuckle “ uh, I think you have the wrong guy”! OMGOODNESS I WAS MORTIFIED, and quickly told him that I thought he was someone else, Kevan Barlow to be exact and with that Parys looked my straight in the eye and said. “Humph, I’m WAY better looking than that guy”!! And that is how we met..

Parys became one of my dearest friends over the next decade and was always someone I loved to talk to and be around. Parys had the biggest heart, the most beautiful smile, the hands down best sense of humor and was so kind to everyone he met! I can truly say I loved Prays very much, and so many of my friends that I introduced him to loved him too, including my husband. Parys was one of a kind and will be forever missed, the world and our community lost a truly beautiful human being. I know we all have wonderful memories of Parys, and it’s not surprising because he was and unforgettably wonderful person and friend.

My sincerest condolences, and sending love and to Parys’s loved ones. Thank you for sharing your light with us all.

I met Parys during his playing days at the University of Tennessee. What stood out about Parys transcended football . He was different.. in a special way . When he first signed with the 49ers , he was so happy to tell me that he had plans to give to his Mother. His thoughts were mostly on helping others .
Unlike many young people , Parys could relate to older adults like me . He walked over from the bus at Notre Dame to greet my wife and myself . And when with his girlfriend at Six Flags over Georgia we chanced to meet , he wasn’t embarrassed to let his girlfriend know of our friendship and greet my family .
I pray for comfort for his wonderful family . And I would like to thank them for sharing Parys with the University of Tennessee family . I’m so thankful for the time I shared with this most kind and giving young man who just happened to play football .
Your memory lives on Parys

If you take anything from this fine young man, it should be to make good use of every second the Lord gives you on this earth.

The thought of that infectious smile fills my heart every time I think of him.

God bless this fine young man’s soul.

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

Parys, the first thing that comes to mind is your laugh, your smile and your stories. You were the most genuine person I’ve ever had in my life! I miss you more than I missed you every time we talked! This wasn’t supposed to happen to you!! The world lost a king, I guess Heaven needed an angel! I love you forever P!

Parys was a student of mine in an SROTC leadership class I taught from 2003-2007 at the University of Tennessee. What a respectful young man he was in every class. He always referred to me as Mr. Turner. He loved discussing leadership and was a natural leader in the making and full of charisma on and off the football field. I saw all the UT games back then and always reminded my wife when Parys made a key play that he was a great young man. My prayers are with the family. What a tremendous loss of humanity. My deepest condolences to the family.

With deepest regrets,
Mr. Turner (Major, Retired, US Army)
