Rod Cameron Obituary

Rod G. Cameron, 66, of Bellingham passed away on June 27, 2017 at his residence. He was the husband of Linda J. (Vasile) Cameron and was a lifelong resident of Bellingham. Rod had a long and difficult struggle with cancer and was fortunate to be at home where he loved to be when he finally found peace. Rod spent the bulk of his adult life working at Dunbars Junk Yard where he did everything from selling used parts and building cars in the early years then transitioning with the company into antiques dealers. Rod was born on January 21, 1951 in Woonsocket, RI., the son of Edward J. and Harriet S. (Smith) Cameron. Rod loved the outdoors and spending time with his family. He enjoyed everything from tending a vegetable garden to fishing and hunting and simply enjoying the beauty of the property he lived on for almost 60 years. He was a true home body and nothing made him happier than having his children and grandchildren around him. He loved passing on his knowledge of fishing to all of his grandchildren and he was thrilled when his grandson showed a great interest in target shooting. One of his fondest memories was from last year when everyone was together at his daughter Erins house and they were all outside learning how to shoot a bow. He beamed with pride as each one took a turn and managed to hit the target. Rod was a true renaissance man, he could literally fix anything and had an amazing talent for matching colors so he could repair paint issues on anything. He also loved the finer things. He appreciated fine art, the symphony and was even surprised to learn that he liked live theater. He was so very proud of his children and he passed knowing that they are very successful, wonderful adults. In addition to his wife Linda of 30 years, he is survived by his son, Rod G. Cameron, Jr. of Franklin, his daughter, Erin (Cameron) Mohn and her husband Justin of Brooklyn, CT, his brother, Edward J. Cameron, Jr. and his wife Tina of Bellingham, his sister, Nancy (Cameron) Drake and her husband Howard also of Bellingham, his son-in-law, Szilard Orvos, his grandchildren, Tavia Orvos, Avin Orvos, Naomi Mohn, Trent Mohn, Lane Mohn and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Natalie (Cameron) Orvos of Pomfret, CT and his grandson, Elek Orvos. Visiting hours will be held on Wed. July 12, 2017 from 4-6 PM in the Buma Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford followed by a funeral service at 6 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. www.bumafuneralhome.com
