Lieutenant Colonel Edward Dean Babiuch

Edward Dean Babiuch passed of natural causes at his beloved condo overlooking the Indian River in Cocoa, Florida on September 22, 2021 at the age of 73.

Born on July 17, 1948 in Tucson, Arizona to Edward (US Army-Korea) and Alice Babiuch, Ed's greatest accomplishments were his 3 daughters: Vanessa, Kristin and Katherine, and his 7 grandchildren: Emily, Sam, Jason, Juliette, Wesley, Tyler II and Jacqueline. Ed's 8th grandchild is due in December 2021.

Ed spent his youth and teenage years in Costa Mesa, California. He was a true 1960s beach boy. He frequented Newport Beach where he was a bronzed lifeguard for a few summers. Ed was an accomplished basketball player in high school and college, with numerous mentions in the local newspapers for scoring winning shots. He attended Orange Coast College and graduated from University of California San Diego with a degree in math.

After college, Ed became an officer in the United States Air Force. He was very proud of his military service and flew combat and peace time missions as a Navigator on C-130 and KC-135 aircraft to include refueling SR-71 aircraft across the globe. Ed served combat tours in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Shield. After active military service, he continued his service as a reservist and flew missions on a regular basis. Ed retired from the military after 24 years earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Concurrent with his service in the Air Force Reserve, Ed spent his civilian career in Aerospace and Defense. He worked in program management and was instrumental in developing flight simulators and military drones. Ed worked at prestigious A&D firms such as Hughes Aircraft, Raytheon, Applitech Inc., AT&T Government Solutions, and AAI Corporation. He eventually moved into full time consulting that focused on program planning and proposal writing. He rounded out his career as a Senior Partner at EDB & Associates/The Figgins Group. Ed retired in 2019.

Ed is survived by his mother, Alice Babiuch of Williamsburg, VA; two sisters, Judith Williams of Williamsburg, VA and Debra Larson of Anaheim Hills, CA; three daughters, Vanessa Armstrong of Costa Mesa, CA, Kristin Pace of Chandler, AZ, Katherine Prill of Irvine, CA, and seven grandchildren.

Ed enjoyed power boats, golf, the beach, NASA and watching rocket launches from his balcony. Most of all, he enjoyed traveling to see his children, grandchildren, sisters, and his 95-year-old mother. Many lives were touched by Ed's sense of humor, laid back attitude, and kind spirit. Not a day will go by which we do not contemplate his vibrant spirit and the legacy of which he has left on this earth.
