Sister Jeanne Richard, formerly known as Sister Jeanne-de-Sainte-Marie, died at Care One at Millbury on Friday, March 20, 2026. She was born in Salem, MA, on September 7, 1925, to her mother Louise (Tremblay) and Stephen Richard. She was the third of four siblings. She was predeceased by her brothers, Albert and Bertrand, and her sister Fernande, who was also a religious in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Assumption.
Sister Jeanne spent 40 years of her religious life teaching in grades 1 through 4 in Barton, VT, Nasonville, RI, Greenville, NH, Lowell, Dracut, Northbridge, and Millbury, MA. In 1967, she went to Philadelphia to become a certified Montessori Teacher. She then opened a Montessori School in Petersham, MA, and another school in Millbury in 1971. Twenty years of dedicated service evolved. Her gentle, kind, and gifted personality charmed the little ones under her care as well as their parents. She was a true educator. In 1987, she became involved in the Associate Program of the Sisters of the Assumption, where she gave her all until 2013. She also held roles of Superior and Principal in the SASV Congregation. She was greatly loved and deeply appreciated.
Funeral services were held on March 26, 2026, in Saint Anne Chapel at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlboro, MA. Sr. Jeanne was interred in East Street Cemetery in Petersham, MA.
