Marlin Sam

1967 - 2026

Aazhawanang, Marlin Sam, age 58 of Onamia, MN, passed away on March 25, 2026. A visitation was held at dusk - 7 PM on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the Baadwewidang Community Center on the Mille Lacs Reservation. A Funeral Ceremony was held at 10 AM on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Baadwewidang Community Center on the Mille Lacs Reservation with Baabiitaw officiating. Interment will be in the Vineland Burial Grounds.

Marlin was born on October 10, 1967, in Onamia, Minnesota, to Myrna (Garbow) and Donald Sam. He loved being with family, regardless if it's watching movies, shopping, or playing board games. Marlin was always up for a game of cribbage and always won when he played against his daughter. He liked to spend his time traveling the state, especially to Hinckley, and hanging out with his friends.

Marlin is survived by his daughter, Kristin Boyd; grandchildren, Janiya Alger, Elicia Alger, Michael Alger, James Alger Jr., and Serenity Sonczalla; sisters, Vivian Sam, Lona Sam, Christina Dircks, Candace Shaugobay, and Jennifer Mitchell; brothers, Desmond Sam, Irwin Sam, Richard Shaugobay, Jeremy Boyd, and Thomas Mitchell; aunties, Tisha Mitchell and Dorinda Garbow; his uncle, Warren Skinaway; and many other loving relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrna Garbow and Donald Sam Sr.; brothers, Donald Sam Jr. and Pete John Sam; his sister, Anita Sam; and niece, Tahnisha Sam.
