James "Jim" Kuhlmeier, 78 years, of Fort Madison died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025, at the Birkwood Village, Fort Madison.
He was born June 26, 1947, in Fort Madison, a son of Adolph John and Geraldine Dorothy (Boeding) Kuhlmeier. On May 3, 1969, he married Carol Louise Sprenger at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fort Madison.
He was a 1965 Aquinas High School graduate. He worked as an auto mechanic for Jim Baier Ford for 38 years.
He loved racing, racing, racing! He started out racing go carts at the Fort Madison Raceway. He went on to race at the Lee County Speedway, Donnellson, Iowa and 34 Raceway, West Burlington. When he wasn't racing, he loved working on old cars, Fords of course. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and old western movies.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Kuhlmeier, of Fort Madison; daughter, Deborah (Sean) Wright of West Point; one brother, Joey Kuhlmeier, of Fort Madison; two grandchildren, Erica Wright and David Wright; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jerome "Jerry" Kuhlmeier.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, with Funeral Services to follow at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at Barr Memorial Chapel, with Father Gary Beckman officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison.
A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
