Jean A. Holmes, 86, Fort Madison, passed away at 9:08 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, at the Montrose Health Center.
She was born on Sept. 25, 1939 in Ida Grove, to Edmund and Dorothy Heldt Baird. She married Thomas Holmes on April 29, 1958, in Ida Grove. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2010.
She was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed watching reality TV shows and spending time with her family. She was an avid collector of many things, and was a very independent and feisty woman.
Jean is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Boecker of New London, and Lori (Ken) Barlow of Fort Madison; three sons, Steven Holmes of Denver, Colorado, Peter Holmes of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Jeffery (Stefanie) Holmes of Castle Rock, Colorado; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Terry and Thomas Holmes Jr., and one brother.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at Bethany Baptist Church, 2340 McKinley Avenue, Keokuk, IA 52632 with her son-in-law, Pastor Ken Barlow, officiating.
The family would like to thank Every Step Hospice Nurses and Staff and the Montrose Health Center Nurses and Staff for the excellent care they gave to Jean in her final years.
