Joe Niles Maine, 81, of Wapello passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington from a ruptured heart aorta.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. on Friday, May 23, in the Wapello Cemetery.

Joe Niles Maine was born on Nov. 1, 1943, the ninth child of Earl and Goldie (Herrick) Maine. He married Virginia "Ginny" Brugge on June 26, 1965. Together they had three sons, Shawn (Melissa) Maine, Matthew Maine (infant stillborn son) and Christopher (Melinda) Maine.
Joe was drafted into the Army in 1965 for two years. The majority of his service time was spent in Germany. When honorably discharged, he was hired by General Electric switchgear plant in Burlington and worked there for 32 years.
Joe will be deeply missed by his wife, Virginia; sons, Shawn (Melissa) and Christopher (Melinda); sister, Patricia Petersen of Bettendorf; five grandchildren, Dylan, Blake, Elizabeth, Corey and Carley, and several nieces and nephews.
Loved ones who have passed include his parents, five brothers, two sisters and infant stillborn son.
