June Wood Obituary
June L. Wood, 89, of the Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden, Ill., formerly of Bowen, died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Home.
She was born July 30, 1935, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, a daughter of Raymond Leland Ramsey and Clydia Leona Thompson Ramsey. June married Robert F. Wood in 1955 and they divorced in 1986. June was a graduate of Quincy Senior High School and Gem City Business College. In 2004 she retired from the Illinois Office of Banks and Real Estate in Springfield after 20 years of service with the State of Illinois. She had also worked for Green Insurance Agency in Quincy. June was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Bowen, where she had served on many committees. June was a 50-year member of Grace Chapter OES in Carthage, and a past matron of that chapter. She had been active in Republican politics in Hancock County having served two terms on the Hancock County Board, Republican Precinct Committeeperson in Chili Township and Treasurer of the Republican Central Committee in Hancock County.
Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Rae Kuhn, Joni (Marvin) Tappe of Bowen, and a son, Robert (Shellie) Wood, of Bowen. Seven grandchildren, Jessica (Danny) Shaver of Rogers, Ark., Jenna (Josh) VerDught of Troy, Katherine Kuhn of Quincy, Tori (Brad) Wellman of Quincy, Alexis (Derek) Holle of O'Fallon, Mo., Zachariah (Taryn) Wood, Justin (Kelsey) Wood all of Bowen. Eight great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren. One sister, Rita (Ronald) Heubner of Quincy and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law and a grandson.
Cremation has been accorded. A graveside service will be held at New Providence Cemetery, Ursa on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Joe Little of the Denver Christian Church officiating.
