Lloyd Mills Obituary

Lloyd Benjamin Mills, 95, of Macomb, Ill., passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025. He was born on Oct. 17, 1929, to Goldie (Thatcher) and Ray Mills Sr. in Janesville, Wis. He had two brothers: Ray (Flossie) Mills Jr. and Gene (Darlene) Mills and two sisters: Naomi (Herman) Akers and LaBelle (Wayne) Thompson. Lloyd graduated from La Harpe High School in La Harpe, in 1947, where he lettered in football. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, served for 20 years, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. While in the Navy, Lloyd served in the Korean War and spent nine months in the South Pole, Antarctica, as part of Operation Deep Freeze. After retirement from the Navy, Lloyd worked at the Macomb Holiday Inn as Maintenance Supervisor and Western Illinois University Physical Plant as second shift supervisor, retiring in 1999. Lloyd and Alice Jackson were married in Industry, on Oct. 17, 1953. They had three children: Kristine (Gene) Frakes, Laura (Raymond) Taylor, and Julia (Steve) Mills-Ruckman. Lloyd and Alice were blessed with eight grandchildren: Rachel (Jessica) Daws-Taylor; Amanda Frost Frakes (Jerrmiah Wright), Andrew (Laura) Taylor, Gannon (Katie Erdmann) Ruckman, Brittany Frakes, Justin (Erin) Frakes, Dave (Janet) Frizzell, and Michael Frizzell. They also have seven great-grandchildren: Mya (Jake) Campbell; Cadence, Gianna, and Jerrmiah (Jr.) Wright; Nathan and Adalynn Frakes; and Weston Daws-Taylor; and two great-great-grandchildren: Amelia and Jackson. Lloyd and Alice were married for 63 years. Lloyd was an exceptional father and husband who always had a quick-witted comeback. He always put his family first and worked tirelessly to give his family what they needed which meant having multiple jobs when necessary. He quietly helped those in need without seeking recognition. Lloyd could build and fix anything. When Alice and Lloyd purchased a house with acreage in the country, he was in his element. He had a garden, several workbenches, a variety of tools and toys, and many opportunities to improve the inside and outside of their home. They enjoyed the quiet and watching the birds and wildlife that visited their property. Alice and Lloyd enjoyed watching their children's and grandchildren's many activities. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters, brothers, daughter (Laura Taylor), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 24, at 1 p.m. with visitation from 12 p.m. until time of service at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Memorials in Lloyd's name may be made to Wesley Village Memory Care Unit. Lloyd's family would like to express their sincere thanks for the love and care they provided during his stay.
