Mindy Louise Schofield

1971 - 2022

Mindy Louise Gilbert Schofield, 51, of Carthage, Illinois, passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Mindy was born July 7, 1971, in Keokuk, to Barb Ferguson and Delbert Gilbert. Mindy grew up in Keokuk and graduated from Keokuk High School with the class of 1989.

Mindy married Jeffrey Schofield on April 15, 2000.

Mindy was a caring and loving soul who would do anything for the people that she loved. She enjoyed working and was working at Henniges Automotive when she became ill. After taking leave she spent her time doing things that she loved for as long as she could. Up until she could no longer do it, Mindy loved to be outside gardening and planting flowers. She settled down and really got a knack for crafting. She was always making things for her children and grandchildren. Mindy loved spending all her free time with her grandkids. Below you will read that Mindy is survived by her four children, but anyone who knew Mindy knew she was "mom" to way more than four; Mindy took in any and all kids who ever needed a helping hand. She had a huge heart and she wore it on her sleeve.

Mindy is survived by her husband Jeff and her four children, Blake Gilbert of Carthage, Ashley (Travis) Bergheger of Carthage, Drake Schofield of Fairfield, and Devin (Whitney) Schofield of Donnellson. She is also survived by her parents, Barb (Larry) Ferguson of Keokuk, and Delbert (Kelley) Gilbert of Keokuk; her sister Michelle Mikaelson of Shallotte, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Akadian, Akillian, Xander, Janice, Ezra, and Tristan; a niece Mariah; two nephews, Tristan and Kyle; and several other nieces and nephews, five step-sisters, Kathy (Gale) Howell of Kahoka, Missouri, Lucy (Mike) Benedict of Fairfield, Lisa (Jesse) Donaldson of Fort Madison, Mary (Keith) Skinner of Keokuk, and Marcia Lott of Keokuk; and one sister-in-law Crista (Jonathan) Dulguime.

Mindy was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, James Gilbert and Kathryn (Howard) Jarvi; her maternal grandparents, John and Fern Korschgen; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Susan and Wayne Hobbs.

A gathering of remembrance will be Friday from 4-6 p.m. at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the family meeting with friends at that time.
