Nancy Bowen Obituary

Nancy Ruth Bowen, 83, of Wever, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2025 at the West Point Care Center, West Point, with her sister, Judy, by her side.

She was born Jan. 19, 1942 at Fort Madison, daughter of Glenn Raymond and Georgia Mae (Stinnett) Werner. On Sept. 15, 1962, she married K. Michael "Mike" Bowen at Fort Madison. He preceded her in death April 19, 2015.

She was a 1959 graduate of Fort Madison High School. She worked several jobs, but the longest and the last was at Kempker's True Value Hardware. She worked there for 23 years, and was a smiling face ready to help anyone. Nancy was raised in the country, and her love of country living followed her through most of her life. She loved sitting outside watching nature. She enjoyed planting flowers. She could never refuse a home to a stray cat or dog. They always found a new home with Nancy.

She is survived by one son; two sisters, Judy (Gene) Hall of Fort Madison and Cheryl (Gordon) Farabaugh of Pennsylvania, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Michelle Lynn Bowen, one son, Clayton Michael Bowen and one sister and brother-in-law, Sandra (Leo) Helling.

Per her wishes her body has been cremated. Private burial was held at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison.

A very special Thank You to the West Point Care staff for becoming Nancy's second family. They are truly appreciated.

A memorial has been established for PAW. Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Bowen family, and an online guest book may be found at www.barrmemorialchapel.com.
