James Bullock

1932 - 2025

Born to Clifford and Mary McMahon Bullock in 1932 in Bozeman, Mont. Raised in Helena and Great Falls. Graduated from Great Falls High School and was active in baseball, football and loved the sports of ice hockey, swimming, handball and golf. Played American Legion baseball and VFW ice hockey. Played on the winning Great Falls Americans ice hockey team. Jim worked many jobs as a youth starting out as a paper boy, then store clerk and cashier, then as a warehouse guard, worked for the State Highway Department, for a spraying flying service, a truck driver for a local cement business and did his time at the Great Falls Smelter. He also worked for the City Parks and Recreation Department and coached baseball. He joined the US Navy and served as a corpsman/medic (Korean War). Jim went on and earned a B.A. degree in Education from the University of Great Falls (Providence) in 1957 and started teaching at Browning High School, Montana. He married Carmelita Cox McNamee, a teacher at Choteau High School and gained a curly-haired little blonde daughter, Marcia Ann McNamee.

The family moved to Merrill, Oregon, and they taught at high schools for the Klamath Falls School District. Upon the birth of their daughter, Alicia Jane Bullock, the family moved home to Montana. Jim taught English and coached the ski team at Hellgate High School, then coached the golf team for many years. He earned a Masters degree from Oregon State College. Jim retired from teaching to spend time golfing, fishing, hunting and enjoying the beauty of Montana's natural surroundings. Jim and Carmelita spent some winter time in Ajo, Arizona, for many years, but were always drawn home to spend time with three grandsons skiing, playing ice hockey, etc.

Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years; his daughters, Alicia Jane Bullock-Muth (Frank) and Marcia McNamee Hafner (Gregg); grandsons, Franklin J. Muth (Wasanna), Theodore P. Muth, Harrison A. Muth and Brian P. Hafner (Samantha); brother, Thomas Bullock and cousin, Tom Andrus (Linda). Jim is predeceased by his grandson, Bartlett J Hafner brother, Gerald and sister, Dorothy Siperly.

The memorial service will be held at 1st United Methodist Church at 300 E. Main in Missoula at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025.
