Hildegard Tokas

Spruce Pine - Hildegard Schaefer Tokas, 91, of Smith Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025.
Born on Sept. 22, 1934, in Kaiserslautern, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Karoline Hey Schaefer. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Dieter and August Schaefer.
Hildegard was a faithful member of Newdale Presbyterian Church and found great joy in attending services and Bible studies. She cherished quiet moments spent watching Hallmark movies, working puzzles and creating beautiful pieces though knitting and crocheting. She will be remembered as a devoted homemaker and caregiver whose love and dedication were centered around her family.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Gabriele Charles and husband Fred of Lyons, Mich., Christine Babcock and husband Steven of Duluth, Ga., Diana Mamou and husband, Mounier of Covington, Ga., and Michelle Boone and husband, Josh of Spruce Pine; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. John Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Newdale Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
