BAKERSVILLE - Jessie Rose Garland Woody, 83, of Bakersville went to Heaven to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2025, at her home. She was born on Jan. 15, 1942, and was a native of Mitchell County. She was a daughter of the late Merritt and Melissa Tuskie Gardner Garland. She was also preceded in death by her cherished husband of 54 years, Charles Woody; her brothers, Bruce, Marshall and Claude Garland and Deward Gardner; her sisters, Anna Willis, Gerrell Clark and Ruby Birchfield.
Woody was a dedicated member of The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ where she served in many different roles in the church over the years. She was fond of going to events at the Mitchell County Senior Center and loved participating in the activities they held there. She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She retired from her role as cafeteria worker and manager from the Mitchell County school system after 25 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Tony Woody, Tonya McKinney and husband Russell, and Tina Pressley and husband Ben; her brother, Guy Garland; her sister, Eloise Staubitz; her grandchildren, Chasity Woody and husband Robert, Chase Woody, Ryan McKinney and wife Katie, Royce McKinney, Cari Chance and husband Austin, and Jonathan Pressley; her great-grandchildren, Calie and Aria Woody, Ranger McKinney and Walker Chance.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025 at 3 p.m. at The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Rev. Jeff Jaynes, the Rev. Russell McKinney and the Rev. G.B. Garland officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the services at the church. A private burial will be held in the Fork Mountain Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery today (Wednesday, Nov. 12). Pallbearers will be Ryan and Royce McKinney, Jonathan Pressley, Chase Woody, Robert Woody, Austin Chance, Luke Yelton and Jacob and Adam Gortney.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Hospice and Home Care of the Blue Ridge for the compassionate care given to both Woody and her family in her final days.
