Bette Lurrine Eldredge Wimmer

1928 - 2025

Moab, Utah-September 27, 1928 – November 11, 2025

Bette Lurrine Eldredge was born on September 27, 1928, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Melba Hanson Eldredge and George Raymond Eldredge. She was the oldest of eight children and grew up on the family farm in Roosevelt, where she learned the value of hard work and family.

It was in Elementary School that she met her future husband, Duane Wimmer. Bette graduated as valedictorian from Alterra High School in 1946 and went on to attend Utah State University and the University of Utah, earning her Bachelor's degree in Education.

On June 3, 1955, she married the love of her life, Duane, and moved to Moab, Utah, where they built a wonderful life and raised their family. Bette taught school for many years, first grade being her favorite, and she touched countless young lives with her patience, warmth, and dedication to learning.

Over the years, she also served as secretary for Union High School and the Grand County School Board, taught accounting classes at the College of Southeastern Utah, and later worked in real estate with Century 21 in Moab.

Bette was a proud member of the Grand County Historical Commission, where she compiled and edited Grand County Pioneer Families, preserving the stories of early settlers for future generations.

Bette and Duane were blessed with three very lucky children: Kelly, Stacy, and Quint. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Duane; sons Duane Stephen (in infancy) and Quinton Blake; her brothers Glen, Steve, John, and Clark; and her sister Marie.

She is survived by her daughter Kelly (Norm) Thompson and her son Stacy (Ronda) Wimmer; her grandchildren Courtney Onesto, Colby Wimmer, and Nicole Wimmer, sisters Nancy Mitchell and Joann Nelson, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Bette will be remembered for her love of history and learning, and most of all, her unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, education, and deep-rooted love.
