Gregory Hood Obituary

Gregory Lee Hood

1960 ~ 2025

Gregory Lee Hood, 65, of Moab, UT passed away on October 19th, 2025, in a car accident. He was the third son of Suzanne & Andy Hood, born on August 3, 1960, in Prairie Village, KS. Gregory spent many summers on the La Sal mountains at his Taylor grandparents' Bar A cabin where he felt like a true cowboy. In 1978, Gregory attended Texas A&M University and was member of the Corps of Cadets. The Corps was a cherished four-year commitment where he was so very proud of his involvement in that militaristic environment - the structure - the discipline - the accountability - the camaraderie - the uniform - the saber - the Senior boots!! He graduated in the Class of '82 with a degree in Business, then Gregory began working for the Prudential in Houston. Gregory went back to school to earn a master's degree in counseling psychology, juggling both jobs for several years.

Gregory always had a deep love for his mother's homeland, Moab, and around age 40 he began the purchase of his mom, SuSu's childhood home. Summer of 2024, Gregory had a meaningful service for his immediate family on his mom's mountain land to spread her ashes. Gregory was an active member in AA, sponsoring over 100 people throughout the years. He would host small gatherings of people to teach Kundalini Yoga for 100 days (or longer) in early morning sessions of this intense practice in his home. In all of Gregory's searching, discoveries & knowledge about different religions, he always professed that Jesus & God were number one! Gregory helped create HEARTHSPACE, a nonprofit organization that offers many community opportunities to learn & grow together. Donations can be made to HEARTHSPACE in Gregory's memory at hearthspacemoab.org

Gregory is preceded in death by his Moab-born grandparents, Helen Goudelock Taylor & Lester Ralph Taylor, and his mother Suzanne Taylor Hood. He is survived by his father, Andy Hood (Tulsa), two brothers and his sister. He adored his 9 nieces & nephews and was amazed by his 12 great nieces & nephews, with 2 more on the way! The celebration of his life service took place at his grandmother, Mimi's church on November 7th, 2025, with Pastor Kyle VanArsdol of Community Church officiating.
