Robert "Bob" Zufelt
1947 ~ 2025
The skies must have been breathtaking over
Moab, Utah, on December 7, 2025, as two beautiful souls-our mom and dad-were finally reunited after 40 years apart. With both sadness and joy in our hearts, we announce the passing of our father, Robert "Bob" Zufelt.
Dad was born to Doyle and Lea Mae Zufelt on July 5, 1947, in
Moab, Utah. He spent his early childhood exploring the red rock hills of Bluff, where he lived until age eight. The family then returned to Moab, where Dad graduated from Grand County High School in 1965. While attending college in Price, he met the love of his life, our sweet mom, Carylee Moss, and the two were married on August 12, 1967.
Shortly after, Dad was drafted into the U.S. Army. When his service concluded, he and Mom settled in Moab and raised their three children-Susan, Lanie, and Robby. Mom's passing on January 5, 1985, left a deep hole in Dad's heart and in the hearts of everyone who loved her. Dad welcomed 13 grandchildren from their 3 children. After mom's passing, dad remarried, and through that marriage gained additional 11 grandchildren. That marriage later ended in divorce.
Anyone who knew Dad knew he was one of the strongest men alive. He fought-and beat-multiple cancers throughout his life. He survived a work-related explosion that left him with a permanent black eye, yet he was out elk hunting three days later. Nothing ever kept him from the mountains he loved.
Dad lived for adventure. Summers were spent camping with family, creating the legendary July campouts we all looked forward to. Every fall, he made sure he was out hunting, regardless of how he felt. He loved rock hounding and could spot a treasure anywhere-more than once he'd reach into his pocket, pull out a stone, and hand it over with a smile. He created beautiful jewelry from the rocks he found and loved sharing his creations.
Even as his health declined, Dad's attitude never did. He was quick with a smile, a joke, or a story. He loved John Wayne movies, Johnny Cash, and Elvis. He had an incredible green thumb and grew the best tomatoes and peppers, which he bottled every fall. Dad worked for the local gas company for 39 years before retiring in 2013.
Dad also loved having a good time with his bro, our Uncle Gary. The two were inseparable troublemakers-never arrested, though they might've ended up in a ditch or two. They spent countless hours in Castleton at the home of their sister, our amazing Aunt Susan, making memories that will last forever.
Dad is survived by his children Susan Zufelt, Lanie and Mike Olsen, and Robby and Jessica Zufelt; by his 22 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; by his sisters Linda Strickland, Karla Douglas, Kim Zufelt, Christy Herbert, and Tammy Stoker; by his brothers Gary Blake and Terry Zufelt; by step-siblings Bob, Dee, and Sandy; and by many nieces and nephews who adored him.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Carylee, his parents Doyle and Lea, his siblings Susan, Dixie, and Tawny, his in-laws Wayne and Elaine, his granddaughters Caryann and Tristan, and his nephews Timmy and Matt Johnston.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to CNS-especially to Jeanette. The world truly feels like a better place with you in it.
A celebration of Dad's life will be held December 13th at 2:00 PM at the Moab Utah Stake Center. We welcome all who wish to share memories, stories, or simply come to pay their respects to our dad.
