Wayne Hoskisson Obituary

Wayne Young Hoskisson

1946 ~ 2026

Wayne Young Hoskisson, much loved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on January 18, 2026. Wayne was born on July 1, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Arnison Hoskisson and Reva Young Hoskisson. Wayne is survived by his son Mathew Arnison Hoskisson, his daughter Kiersten Sara Hoskisson, and his grandson Conor James Holt.

Wayne grew up in Salt Lake City and Provo, Utah. As a young man, Wayne joined the Army Reserve and served in the Vietnam War. After returning from Vietnam, Wayne graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor's degree in nursing. Wayne then worked as a nurse supervisor and histology supervisor in Salt Lake City. After working in healthcare, Wayne had a second career as an activist working to protect Utah's wilderness. He moved to Moab, Utah, and worked for and volunteered at many conservation organizations. Wayne was also active in the Moab community and served for many years on the Moab City Planning Commission.

Wayne had a deep love of the outdoors and Utah's wild places. He was a talented artist and an avid reader. He had an offbeat and well-developed sense of humor. He had a calm and considered approach to problem solving and discourse. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Wayne's life will be held at a later date in the Moab area. Thank you to all of Wayne's friends and family who have reached out with love and kindness. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Wayne's name to the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, suwa.org, or the Utah Sierra Club, sierraclub.org/utah.

Family and friends are invited to share tributes online at www.SpanishValleyMortuary.com.
