Albert Chavannes Obituary

Dr. Albert Hill Chavannes

February 29, 1936 - April 11, 2025

Waterford, California - Albert passed peacefully at his home in Waterford, CA on April 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Albert Hill Chavannes was born in Knoxville TN, February 29, 1936. He is survived by his wife, Agnes Chavannes; children, Kimberly Chavannes McHaffie, Gray Chavannes, Mary Pearce, and Sandra Mathias, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Al graduated from high school in Knoxville, TN, attended Medical School at University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and was Tennessee Vol to the end. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at Washington University in St Louis, MO, then served in the US Navy for 2 years, based in Norfolk, VA.

Al spent his professional career in Pediatrics at Woodland Clinic in Woodland, CA for 36 years until he retired in 2000. He and Agnes moved to the foothills of California, Sutter Creek, where they enjoyed years actively participating in garden club and volunteering at local children's shot clinics. In 2013, he and Agnes moved to Modesto, CA to be closer to family and grandchildren. Just last year they made their final move to Waterford to live across the road from their daughter, Sandra and family, at their family ranch.

We will be hosting a celebration of Al's life, Saturday, May 24th, 2025, at their home in Waterford, CA between 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Dr Chavannes was my Pediatrician, his kids and my siblings and I grew up just a block away from each other. Yes, the whole family were diehard Vols! They had a garage conversion and it was as orange as they get! As was their family van. Dr Chavannes put stitches in my upper lip, left eyebrow, twice in the chin and 15 in my forehead. Yes, he got tired of putting my face back together!!!. God Bless you Al and your family!!!! What great memories!!!! I always told you that I thought you resembled Thomas Jefferson and I stand by that RIP my friend and Pediatrician.

Agnes- so sad to read of Al's death; when we met at your home for book club or at the market, he always seemed so kind and caring; my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
