Escalon, California - Alida ("Alie") Van Ryn – October 8, 1930-January 27, 2024
Alie Van Ryn passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the age of 93. Alie was born 0n October 8, 1930, in Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands. She was the second of seven children born to Simon and Marie Verdegaal.
Alie grew up in Holland during World War II. In 1949, she boarded a freighter ship with her mother and six siblings to make their way to the United States to be united with their father. The family arrived in Baltimore, MD, and made their way to California by train.
Alie married Herman Van Ryn in 1953 and they had three children. Alie and Herman owned an almond ranch in Escalon. They were married for 40 years until the passing of Herman in 1993.
Alie was a loving mother and a wonderful "Oma" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many and will be forever in our hearts.
Alie leaves behind her children: Marian Nugent, Rick Van Ryn, and Jeff Van Ryn (Lisa); her grandchildren: Stacey (Jason), Eric, Nikole, Brielle, and Brynn; and her great-grandchildren: Noah, Logan, and Madelyne.
A rosary is scheduled for Friday, February 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., with Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 19339 E. Highway 120, Ripon, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the charity of their choice.
