Barbara Hastie Obituary

Barbara Joan Hastie
April 22, 1929 - January 23, 2022
Modesto, California - With immense sadness, we announce the passing of Barbara Joan Hastie, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched. She passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her daughters and grandchildren midday on January 23, 2022. She was 92 years old.
Born in Ipswich, England, to Charles and Elsie Swarbrick, Barbara traveled across seas to the unfamiliar United States as a military bride at age seventeen. She found work as a meat wrapper clerk at the Safeway supermarket on Paradise Road where she would meet the love of her life Lloyd Donald Hastie, whose heart and love she would possess forevermore. Married in Modesto in 1960, they moved to their ranch off Paradise Road in 1962 where they would grow their family and create memories for the next sixty years.
Barbara was the beloved mother of Dennis Moore, Janet Clark (William Jr.), Jacqueline Schei, Candy Bava (Ralph), and Tami May (Dan). Proud grandmother of William Clark III (Suzette), Tamara Gonzalez (Manuel), Amy Schei, Tiffany Boere (John), Lindsay Bava, Ryan May (Shea), and Amber Smith (Jacob). Great-grandmother to eleven (11) great-grandchildren and Great-great-grandmother to eight (8) great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Lloyd, her loving children Dennis and Jacqueline, and parents Charles and Elsie.
She lived an abundant life, constantly surrounded by the love of her family. Barbara loved to cook and entertain, hosting Sunday dinner for her entire extended family every week which always included a lavish dessert. She would never miss an opportunity to make a German chocolate cake for all her daughter's birthdays. She loved English black tea with milk and sugar every morning while watching The Price Is Right. She was not one to ever leave the house without making sure her hair, makeup, and outfit were to her satisfaction, even at the age of 92. Barbara was a devout Christian with an unwavering faith in her Heavenly Father, upon which she built the foundation for her life's morals and values. She was a strong, independent, passionate spirit and will always be remembered for her determined grit and the courage she possessed. She cherished raising her brilliant daughters and grandchildren the most, while providing them with a strong foundation of love and family. She shared her loving and nurturing spirit with them, who all will no doubt carry their mother's and grandmother's enthusiasm for life, adventure, and deep compassion in all that they do in life.
Above all else, Barbara embodied the notion that the love a family shares is infallible. She was undoubtedly the matriarch of our family and will forever be missed and forever be in our hearts.
A Celebration of Barbara's life will be held at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home, 1050 McHenry Avenue, Modesto, on Thursday, February 10, 2022, beginning at 11 a.m.
