Barbara Jean Mercer

February 4, 1942 - November 6, 2024

Gardnerville, Nevada - Barbara "Bobbie" Jean Mercer, 82, peacefully passed away on November 6, 2024, in Gardnerville, NV, with her loving husband and sons by her side. Born on February 4, 1942, Bobbie was known for living life to its fullest. Bobbie was a graduate of Modesto High, which laid the foundation for her entrepreneurial and successful career. She was the owner and operator of several businesses including: a liquor store, a construction company, and a boat marina concession. Beyond these ventures, she managed banks, restaurants, and beauty salons showcasing her versatile management skills and a relentless work ethic. Her personal life was as vibrant and active as her professional one. Bobbie was a champion water skier, bodybuilder, and softball player. Passions that reflected her love for life and her competitive spirit. She cherished family gatherings. Her home was the heart of holiday celebrations and the best "Portagee" beans ever made. Bobbie and Dennis loved traveling, and if they came across a video poker game, even better. Bobbie's personality was the glue that held her family together. She was a loving and caring, mother. Always striving to ensure happiness and love to her family and friends. She had a big, bright smile that would light up the room. She leaves behind her loving husband, Dennis Mercer; her sons, Brett Darnell, Derek Darnell, Brian Darnell, and stepson Dennis Mercer Jr. as well as her many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Lewis Souza; mother, Mary Vetro; sister, Lucille Ortiz; brother, Frank Souza; and her infant son, Darren Darnell. A celebration of life will be held in her honor on January 26, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at the Modesto Elks Lodge. This gathering will serve as a testament to her memorable life and the indelible mark she left on those around her. Bobbie was loved by all who knew her. She was a beacon of love, happiness and enduring strength. She will be greatly missed.
