I found a story I wrote back in High School, it was called "Skylight" and it was a story I was to write for Honors English Class. I was to pick one person to write about and it could be anyone, and for any reason. I wrote about my brother Cory. The story was really hard to read because it drummed up that heavy feeling of missing him. However, at the same time, it filled my heart with joy, such joy that my heart felt the warmth of love. It reminded me of why I wrote Skylight to begin with. I wrote it because Cory was a really great brother... he took time out of his world to check up on me, make sure I was okay. As I hear through everyones memories whether it be friend or family, he did that for all the ones he loved. He had a big heart, very passionate about all things really.... I will always love you Cory, admire you, and you will always be my skylight. Love you, your sis, Kal.

My first memory of Cory is of him pretending to be a huge fly while chasing a friend and me around the playground while we pretended to be horses. He also claimed that I let him copy my math in school, which I don't remember, but he brought it up often. Ha ha. These past few years we shared our passion for food and creating stories. He was always eager to hear how I was doing or what I was writing. Anxious to read the next story I had in mind. There are things I wish I had told him. Like the time in high school, I went to one of the plays he was in. I'm glad that we were able to catch up with each other later in life. He was what I consider one of those magical people gone too soon. My heart and lots of love go out to his family.

My heart is breaking for all who knew Cory. He was such a sweet, sweet soul, never saying a bad word about anyone.... never. I remember once, when he learned we were going to Juneau, AK. he asked us to 'look up' one of his friends.. we did and Cory was ecstatic about it, we took pictures and even called him.

I don´t know how to console my grieving heart at your departure. I´m so much heart broken but I will pray for your departed soul in every moment of my life. I'm sorry I couldn't answer the last call. You've been there in a hurry. Without fulfilling the promise to come to Japan someday. You were my good friend from the day we met. Curious, innocent, handsome, loving to please people, and humorous, you are my eternal proud brother beyond the boundaries of race. Do you remember? The day we all Gaskell kids slept outside while watching the starry sky at the Estacada house. The night sky was full of stars and lots of shooting stars. I´ve never seen that beautiful night sky more than that day. Now you can see that beautiful starry sky closer than anyone else. Thank you so much for leaving a lot of wonderful memories. A lot of memories with you still live firmly in my heart. And your deep love for your beloved daughter Ivy is very heart warming and respectworthy. I sincerely pray for a restful departure here from Japan. I'm looking forward to seeing you again. I love you, Cory See you later. Your Japanese sister, Aska.

My heart goes out to Cory´s family, but more importantly to his daughter Ivy. From the first time Cory and I spoke on the phone almost 2 years ago he spoke of his love of being her dad. He was so proud of it. During his many "Cory stories" that I listened to over that time, he never failed to make me laugh. Even when he was having a rough time. He always chose to laugh. We always ended our calls the same, "Ok, talk to you soon Buddy. " So buddy, I´ll continue to laugh every time I think of you and I´ll talk to you soon.
