DELFINA L. SILVA OCT. 4, 1913-JUN. 15,2009 Delfena L. Silva, 95, a 51 year resident of Escalon passed away Mon., June 15 in Mtca. She was born in Alvarado, on Oct. 4, 1913. She leaves behind her 4 children, Geri Garcia of Modesto, Norman Silva & wife, Toni of Escalon, Vernon Silva & wife, Linda of Arnold and Antonette Pearson & husband Merle of Willows. 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and 2 sisters; Vivian Cardoza and Audrey Woodard. In 1958 Delfena and her husband Jesse purchased a dairy farm, together they worked side by side until his untimely death in 1961. After 27 years of marriage she was left without her devoted companion. With the help of their children she was now forced to operate the farm on her own. The dairy became her pride & joy; she gave it her all & never settled for anything less then the best. Long days filled with determination and hard work became her everyday way of life until her retirement in the late 1970's. Delfena treasured her family dearly; she and her 8 sisters were tremendously close. They shared a wonderful bond; talking daily on the phone to one another, monthly birthday luncheons, vacationing & traveling together. Never once leaving a sister behind; if one of them wasn't able to go then none of them would go. She was very proud of her Portuguese heritage, a member of the U.P.E.C. and Native Daughters of the Golden West both of Manteca. She had an amazing green thumb & loved caring for her flowers; her roses were always breathtakingly beautiful. Mrs. Silva will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Rd, Mtca, on Thurs, June 18 from 2 - 7 pm, followed immediately by a Vigil. A Mass will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 525 E. North St., Mtca, on Fri. June 19, at 11:30 am. Comitial will follow at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Modesto. P.L.
