FELIX MUNOZ NOV 4, 1936 - APRIL 4, 2009 It is with a heavy heart, the loving family of Felix Munoz, wishes to inform you of his sudden passing on Saturday, April 4, 2009. Born on November 4, 1936 in Jerome, AZ to Roman and Mariana Munoz. Felix was raised in Turlock, CA, and attended Turlock High School. In 1954, he enlisted in the US Army, he served his beloved country as a paratrooper until 1956. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge, Felix returned to Turlock and worked in the poultry industry for five years. With a desire to do more with his life, Felix began his career with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Dept. working at the County Jail in 1961. Felix was the first Hispanic to be hired by the Sheriff's Dept. and was a valuable asset to the county, as a translator. After working in the County Jail, Felix was transferred to the Patrol Division. He then became a Field Training Officer, in charge of training new Deputies. He was promoted to sergeant and began working in the Homicide Division. He truly had a passion for solving those cases and was still affected by those that remained unsolved. He then received a promotion to Lieutenant and worked as a Watch Commander. In 1983, Felix graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. Later, he became Lieutenant of Internal Affairs. He returned to the Homicide Division until he retired in 1992, after 31 years of service. Felix was a kind hearted man, with a gentle soul. He was a good friend and a wonderful listener. Felix was well respected by all, as man of his word and a hero to his family. Felix was a member of Elks, The Retired Peace Officers Assoc., and E. Clampus Vitus, as well as many other associations. He loved traveling with his wife, Pat. They enjoyed the quest to find the perfect hamburger. He loved fishing with his boys, daily chats with his daughter, and his dog, Lola. Felix is survived by the love of life and best friend, Pat Munoz, his daughter, Karen Hickey, his sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Alison Munoz, John and Kay Munoz, his stepchildren, Matt and Amber Yonan and Anthony and Jill Cuevas. Also survived by his grandchildren, Justin Funk, Stephanie Munoz, Michael Munoz (US Navy), Lucas and Andrew Yonan, Katelynn and Taylor Cuevas, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, and his granddaughter, Nicole Funk. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who loved him. The viewing will be held at Franklin & Downs-Colonial Chapel, from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2009. Services will be held Thursday, April 9th at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church located at 12th and Needham. Graveside services to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. A reception to honor Felix will be announced. Donations can be made to the American Kidney Association or a charity of choice. I am so sorry to hear of Felix's passing. Not only did I worked with him at the S/O but my family (Lara) of Turlock, Ca knew him since he was a teenager. My older sister and Father often told me stories about Felix when he was younger and I really enjoyed them. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I can still see his smiling eyes! He was one of the funniest men that I have had the pleasure of knowing. Jim, John and of course my dear friend Karen, I am so very very sorry for your loss. Know that he was a great man here on earth and we all will miss him very much. He did leave a legacy...his wonderful beautiful kids. Growing up with the three of them was "way too much fun" probably more than most law allows. It was a honor knowing Felix. I am proud to have known him and his family.

Felix, you were the most respected man I knew in law enforcement. Not only by myself but by anyone who had the privilege to work with you. Even during those times you worked IA. I'll never forget the day I was seated before you (you as the IA investigator and I as the interviewee)and you gave me the admoishment. You could tell I was extremely concerned,to say the least. You took the time to explain the process to me. Then you begin the interview. I carried that style of leadership with me throughout my law enforcement and military careers. My condolences to your family and please know my prayers are with them. See ya later,
Seaside

Jim, John, Karen and families,
We are so sorry to hear of Felix's passing. He was such a character and just went with the flow no matter what. When the homicide detective & the critical care nurse got together, the sick sense of humor between us was hysterically funny (usually just to us) - we would laugh until we cried. With all the health problems he had, he just took things in stride, each day at a time. We will always admire him and be blessed by having had him in our lives. He will be greatly missed.

Felix left a positive impression on me at a very young age when I first started at the Sheriff's Office. He and Les Weidman worked Homicide at the time and Felix would always come in and share the stories with us. I can still hear his laugh. Although I had not seen Felix in many years, I will always remember him. He will be missed! His family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Felix, thank you for the values you taught me about life and law enforcement. I learned a lot during my time with you as a deputy with the Stan Co SO. It really helped me a lot during my career. I never forgot those lessons. You were a gift to our county and law enforcement. Not only honest but taught me to be truthful, helpful, and kind but how to be fair to the community residents. I am fortunate to have known you. My prayers are with your family during this time. Thant you Felix.

Felix, what an honor to have known you and have been part of your family. I always looked up to you as such a gentle, kind and caring person, as well as a mentor professionally. You were always special to me and a wonderful Grandfather to Karen's and my children. You will be sorely missed, but your mark on our community and especially those that knew you personally will endure forever. Rest in peace.

My sweet, sweet Daddy,

I knew you were getting tired, although you never complained. With the grace of God, he took you quickly, quietly, and without any pain. Though my heart is broken, i do have many fond memories, enough to last a life time. You were truely my hero, and the greatest man i ever knew. Goodnight, Daddy. I love you, your loving Daughter, Karen
