Joe L. Parreira of Oakdale, CA, passed away Sunday, April 8, at Doctor's Hospital in Modesto, CA. He was one month shy of his 71st birthday.
Joe was born in the Azores on May 13, 1947 to Joaõ Parreira and Eugenia Das Neves Couto. Among his favorite hobbies, Joe loved animals. He raised bulls and loved bullfighting. A dairyman for 17 years, he also loved working on the farm and tending to livestock. Joe would often watch sporting soccer in his spare time. He loved Portugal and was able to fulfill his wish when he traveled there last year.
Joe and his wife Rosemary were avid members of Our Lady of Fatima; they started the Our Lady of Fatima Society of Oakdale. Joe was a past president of M.P.P.A., Modesto. Joe was also a member of the Luso-American Financial, a fraternal benefit society.
Joe is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosemary Toste Parreira and two brothers, John Parreira of Turlock and Frank Parreira of Hilmar. He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., followed by the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 2602 S. Walnut Rd., Turlock. The funeral Mass will be held the following day at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 13, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church.
