John Aiello Obituary

John Vincent Aiello
August 20, 1949 - February 26, 2014
John Vincent Aiello (Johnny), 64, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 20, 1949 in Modesto, CA to Frank and Mary Aiello. Chief (John) leaves behind his loving wife Cheryl Gladysz Aiello, his mother Mary Aiello, his brother Paul (Bo) Aiello (Diane) and his sister Joanne Balch. He will also be missed by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Nick and Debbi Gladysz, and sister-in-law Marcia Brown, and his nieces Courtney Christensen (Cody), Lauren and Julianne Aiello, Nicole Miller (Hans), Stacy Rodgers (Chad), Jacqueline Anderson (Tony Rocha),  nephew Greg Brown, great nephews Carter and Caiden Christensen, great niece Lexie Miller, and his "boy" Maxx. John is preceded in death by his father Frank Aiello, his grandparents John and Elisa Borghello, and Vincent and Antoinette Aiello. John graduated from Grace Davis High School and Chico State College University. He was a teacher and football coach at Ceres High School for over 30 years. "The Chief" enjoyed all sports, especially his 49ers, the Giants, the Warriors, and the MJC Pirates. He was the umpire and referee for baseball and basketball at the collegiate level. Once he retired from teaching and coaching, John could be found on the golf course with his "Golf Buddies" Al Boese, Paul Abbey, and Jim Williamson finding new courses to tame. John and Cheryl enjoyed attending many Warrior basketball and Giant baseball games. One always looked forward to the tales after their many travels with Nick, Debbi, Mike and Kim. In addition to my previous note, I have to add another experience that my friendship with John made available to me as a youngster. That was swamping peaches. Johns dad had either friends or relatives w/Peach orchards. I remember being picked up at my house about 5am and jumping in the bed of the pickup with John and Bobo and being driven to the orchard at harvest time to swamp peaches. That means lifting the crates that the peach pickers had filled, onto the trailer pulled by a tractor.I'm just so blessed to recall all of these memories that would never have happened w/o my friend John Aiello and his wonderful family. My goodness, my sister just called to let me know that John passed.I havent seen or spoken to John for many years as I have moved to southern cal in 1970. Johny Aiello and his great family were the most impactful people in my life other than my family, when we went Our Lady of fatima school.Johnny and I became friends at 10 or 11 years old and I spent so many times at his house(living only a few blocks away).I remember experiencing my first Italian cooking. And oh my, I fell in love with that Italian home experience.I can't begin to say how much love the Aiello's put into me as a young boy.I remember the endless foos ball games we used to play on the driveway and that little Bobo was always upping us older guys. Then I have to mention the Midget racer cars that they provided for one of the carnivals at fatima w/ the hay bales and the whole thing that we all got to race as little kids on the school playground.
Finally I also remember Frank taking us up to the San Francisco area and had my first Italian resturant 7 course meal. I still remember "Pasta Shuta" to this day.And also the first high school football game I ever saw at a Catholic High school, in I think ,Stockton?? Johnny and I played at Davis on the same team. He was the Quarter back and I was linbacker.Love you Mary and family, Pat Upton -

Cheryl, Johnny was such a warm-hearted person. He made others feel comfortable and "at home" in his presence. I enjoyed our conversations about teaching, and always thought you were such a fun couple because you both had a good sense of humor. I am glad I met him and got to know him during the special occasions when we would all get together. I know you will take good care of "his boy" Maxx. There will certainly be good memories of Johnny in everyone's heart who had the pleasure of knowing him. I am thinking of you...
