Laurel Mahaney Obituary

Laurel Mahaney
May 26, 1951 - July 9, 2015
Laurel Sue Mahaney, 64, passed away on July 9 after battling a reoccurrence of lymphoma for several months.
She is preceded in death by her father, Dean "Shorty" Mahaney and survived by her mother, June Mahaney of Oakdale.
Laurel leaves behind her daughter, Kira Earhart (Oden) and son-in-law, Nathan Earhart, and two beloved grandchildren, Reilly and Ryder, all of Waterford.
She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Mahaney of Oakdale, brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Betsy Mahaney of Modesto, and sister, Gail Arnold of Knoxville, TN, in addition to her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, Scott and Lacy Feichter, Jill Mahaney, Leah Arnold, Ricky Mahaney, and Jared and Rachel Ronngren, as well as many family members and friends.
Retiring from Stanislaus County in 2009, Laurel worked as a social worker for twenty-nine years.  She resided in Oakdale for most of her life before following her dream of moving to Reno, NV after retirement.  An avid sports fan, she loved to root for the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49ers.  She enjoyed traveling, reading, art and culture and, most of all, spoiling her dog, Darla.
Known for generosity and kindness, Laurel will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on August 7th at 1 p.m. at Sierra Foothills Community Church, 1040 W. 'F' St., Oakdale.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made in Laurel's name to UCSF Hematology, P.O. Box 0248, San Francisco, CA 94104 or to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society - www.donate.lls.org.

I was so sorry to hear of Laurel's passing and am so sorry I did not hear in time to come to her memorial. Laurel was my friend in elementary school and I remember all the fun we had playing. We had many fun times on weekends at her house and mine. What joy and comfort The Lord promised us in John 14, that He would go and prepare a place for us so we can be with Him forever!
I will see you again my dear friend. My love and condolences to all the family

Laurel's Uncle Jack and I are saddened by Laurel's passing. We never got to know her really well, but the time we did spend with her we found her to be a lovely and brave woman who raised a special and sweet daughter. We are sure that her mother, Kira, her grandchildren, little Darla, and all her family and friends will miss her always, as will we. Her spirit lives on.

I will never forget Mahaney in the PIT with me. We laughed and cried but she always was true and did not candy coat what was needed. Years later I see myself training folks "Mahaney Style". I still laugh at some of the stuff and miss her dearly. She was strong and sweet and gave to everyone before taking anything for herself. She will be missed but most importantly remembered.

Aunt June Kira and family, although I didn't know Laurel all that well growing up, I always admired her gracefulness, She was a beautiful Lady. Recently I had the pleasure of getting to know her family a little more at some recent Linn Family get togethers. It was so nice to meet Kira and her adorable children, you could not help but feel the Love between all of them. Our thoughts and prayers are with. May your memories always bring you comfort.
Loving regards from her cousin Robin Miller and Family.

Laurel was a trainer, mentor and above all a good friend to me. We worked together many years, with her sitting right next to be. She loved her daughter to the moon and back. I know this as that is all she talked about so tenderly. I remember she was counting the days until she retired..so she could move out of CA. She was a wonderful mother, friend and co worker. Laurel, you will be missed here on this earth, but I know you are in a better place. Rest In Peace my friend.

Laurel and I worked together for many years and shared a close friendship. She was a kind and compassionate social worker and was a joy to work with. I will always remember her infectious laugh and dry sense of humor. My condolences to all of the family. She loved you all so very much.

I will miss you my friend... RIP
