Louis Vieira Obituary

Louis Leslie Vieira
July 9, 1915 - May 22, 2013
Louis L. Vieira passed away quietly on May 22, 2013. Dad was born July 9, 1915 on the Vieira Ranch in Ceres. He spent his early years helping his father work the the ranch with a team of horses. It was love at first sight for Dad. He spotted Mom at a Portuguese dance in 1937 and courted her until she said yes. He married, Patricia Baptista of Turlock, in 1939. They moved to the San Francisco Bay area and Sacramento. Dad worked days and went to law school nights at McGeorge College of Law. In 1941, he became a licensed insurance agent. The insurance industry remained his career. In 1972, he retired from United Pacific Insurance Company, where he served as their Southern California Claims Operations Manager. They moved from Manhattan Beach, California to Grants Pass and then Brookings, Oregon. where they owned and operated Vieira Adjustment services for ten years. They were married for 43 years. After Patricia's death he married a widowed family friend, Daphna Fernandez. Daphna passed away in 1999 and he moved back to Ceres to care for his sister, Mary Blair until her death in 2001.
In 2001, he moved to Vancouver, Washington to be near family. Louis was a Past Grand President of the U.P.E.C. He was a member of the Sydney Croft Masonic Lodge of Brookings, and a thirty year member of the B.P.O.E. Surviving are his three children: Antonio "Tony" Vieira of Gardena, Louis L. Vieira Jr. (Sue) of Apple Valley, and Kathleen Honeycutt (Theron) of Vancouver, WA. He leaves 5 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. He also leaves two step children: Barbara Fellows of Fresno and Frank Fernandez of Bakersfield. He was preceded in death by: wife Patricia Baptista, wife Daphna Vieira, sister Mary Blair, brother Joe Vieira and nephew William Vieira. Louis requested no funeral be held and he will be laid to rest next to his wife Patricia in Ward Cemetery, Brookings, Oregon. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to: Ray Hickey Hospice House or Friends of the Carpenter-Vancouver, WA. The family wishes to thank the staff of Ray Hickey Hospice House for their loving care of Dad in the final days of his life.  His last wish was to be able to dance with Mom again. He is celebrating Fathers Day with her and his Heavenly Father.

Dear Vieira family, and Kathleen

My Father Bill Vieira Was Louis nephew. When i was little my parents and i went to visit Louie and Pat in Grants Pass oregon. We stayed with them and had a great time. My father looked up to Louie and thought he was such a great man!He and Grandpa Joe were one of a kind. I also got the pleasure to meet Daphne and she was really sweet.
