Hickman, California - It is with the greatest of sadness that his family announces the death of Lyle Hensley. Lyle passed away peacefully in his sleep at home after a long battle with heart failure.
The fifth of 7 children, Lyle was born to Harmon and Esther Hensley in McAllen Texas. At the age of 3 , his family moved from Texas to El Cajon, California . A few years later they settled in Hickman , California. Lyle started 1st grade and went to school without shoes. He was the first in his family to graduate high school. Graduating from Hughson High School in 1957.
July 4th he went on a blind date with the love of his life Sharon Sharp, but by the time they picked up all their friends, Sharon had to be home, she had an early curfew. But it was love at first sight. Lyle called the next day and they married 10 months later. Sharon was his soulmate as he was hers. They began their adventurous marriage that would take them to Nevada, Arizona, Oregon and then back to California - to be near family.
Lyle worked many jobs, but paving would become the defining career of his life. After learning the trade from his brother Ben, and with help from their brother Earl, Lyle and Jim started Hensley Brothers Paving in 1966. The business was started on a shoestring budget, but the Hensley work ethic became the driving force behind the company's success . Lyle "retired " from paving at the end 2004, but his presence was always welcomed at the shop. The company's work was always a source of pride.
Above all, Lyle was a fun-loving family man. He was a hunter, fisherman, water skier and rock hound. He was the source of information on so many subjects. He took his family on too many adventures to list. A true outdoorsman, he loved camping . Special places in heart were Dodge Meadows, the Willamette River, June Lake and Quartzsite. They boondocked in Quartzsite for many years before they bought a lot in Rainbow Acres. Along with old friends , they met so many new friends that have the same fun personalities. He made the most out of the time he spent with people and made everyone feel valued and welcomed in his presence. He was loved by all who knew him. Our lives are forever changed in his absence.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Earl E. , Benjamin M. , Jimmie H. And Danny L. and his sisters -Mary Ellen Inman and Diane Thompson.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years Sharon , his daughters Brenda Neitz (Lewis), Karen Nelson (Mark) , sons Tim Hensley (Tina) and Mark Hensley. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren .
