Mary Taylor Obituary
Mary Lue Abbott Taylor
October 21, 1934 - December 22, 2024
Modesto, California - Mary Lue Taylor, age 90, passed away peacefully at Memorial Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
Mary Lue was born to William Leon & Nettie Mae Theobald Abbott in Hinckley, Utah. She was later adopted at age 6 by her uncle and aunt, Lemuel Brooks & Selma Anderson Abbott, due to the death of Mary Lue's mother, Nettie Mae. Mary Lue was very blessed to be loved by both families.
Mary Lue was the 10th of 11 children. Her siblings are Nina Sorenson, Lane Abbott, Quenton Abbott, Mac Abbott, Ruth Losee, Dwight Abbott, Chauncey Abbott, Verl Abbott, Ladd Abbott, and George Abbott.
Mary Lue grew up in Chico, CA and enjoyed riding her bike around town with her dog, Dutch, in the handlebar basket. She especially loved the library which led to a lifetime joy of reading. Heidi, the story of a young orphan girl, was the first and most cherished book she ever read.
Mary Lue met her husband, Clarence R. Taylor (Apr 6, 1934 - Nov 7, 2018) during their senior year at Chico High School. Clare's family had just moved from the Farmington, New Mexico and he was a very handsome, dark-haired singer with a beautiful tenor voice. Clare joined the army after high school graduation and Mary Lue attended Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. They married on April 7, 1955 in the Salt Lake City, UT Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their 61 years of marriage took them to Kentucky, Japan, Utah, and California.
Mary Lue and Clare have 8 children, Curtis (Janet) Taylor, Richard (Jill) Taylor, Scott (Ann) Taylor, Ronald (Patricia) Taylor, Jennifer (David) Forsberg, Stuart (Tina) Taylor, Rebecca (Dean) McDaniel, and Brooks (AmyAnn) Taylor. Sadly, Brooks passed away in November 2022.
Mary Lue has 42 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. Surprisingly, her youngest grandchild, the child of Brooks and AmyAnn Taylor, is only 3 years old.
Mary Lue is a woman of faith and service. She loves her Savior, Jesus Christ, and also had an open door to friends and family. She volunteered in church over the years with the young children, teens, and women of her congregation. Mary Lue started the Little League at Stanislaus Union Elementary to give her young boys the opportunity to play organized sports, she refereed young women's church basketball games, was the president at Renee Manor Homeowners Association, and was PTA President at Eisenhut Elementary. Mary Lue had the ability to graciously accept whatever circumstance she faced. She cooked the best roast beef in the world, but most importantly, she quietly served others whenever the opportunity presented itself.
