Milton Edward Pometta
September 25, 1925 - October 9, 2021
Gustine, California - Milton "Mickey" Edward Pometta, 96 of Gustine, passed away Saturday, October 9th at his ranch in Gustine, where he had lived his entire life, since his birth in Newman. He attended Cottonwood School and graduated from Gustine High School in 1943, where he was active in FFA. Later that year, he entered the Navy and served aboard the USS Hendry in the Pacific Theater. He served at the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, where his ship survived ten days of fierce Kamikaze attacks. After returning home, he met Balbina Luiz from Crows Landing and they were married on October 1, 1947. They had a dairy for several years and when the cows were sold, they farmed walnuts. Mickey enjoyed hunting with his dad, friends and three boys. In later life, he attended all of the grandkids sporting events, theater performances and stock shows. Mickey was a parishioner at the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles and was a member of the Gustine Historical Society, the VFW and was a US Navy Veteran. Mickey was a hard-working, honest, devoted family man. We are so lucky and blessed to have had him for our dad. He is survived by his four children; Steve (Cheryl) Pometta of Gustine, Sally Pometta of Sacramento, Rocci (Kathy) Pometta of Newman and Dan Pometta of Gustine; five grandchildren; Samantha (Shaun), Chase (Kady), Colton, Lacey and Amos (Melanie); eleven great-grandchildren and also a sister, Pearl Jensen of Turlock. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Pometta and Alice McNerney and his wife of 65 years, Balbina. A Visitation will be held from 8:30 am to 10:00 am, followed by a Rosary/Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 20th at Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles in Gustine. Interment to follow at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.Donations may be made to: Gustine Historical Society, 803 Laurel Avenue, Gustine, California 95322 or V.F.W.
