Richard "Dick" Imfeld Obituary

Dick Imfeld, age 84, unexpectedly passed away at home in his sleep and into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 2, 2024. Born on April 28, 1940, in Modesto to William and Margaret Imfeld, Dick was the eldest of three children.

In 1923, his paternal grandparents immigrated from Switzerland with Dick's father and ten siblings. He was proud of his Swiss heritage and made several memorable visits to Switzerland.

After graduating from Cal Poly Pomona in 1963, Dick joined his father at the family business, IC Refrigeration Service. Beginning at the ground level, he learned every aspect of the HVAC industry and eventually took the helm. With perseverance and a strong work ethic, he guided the company through challenging times and oversaw its steady growth. Known for his commitment to people, Dick believed deeply in putting employees, their families, and customers first. He loved the work, the people, and the community. He reluctantly retired in 2022.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dick was an avid fan of the SF Giants and 49ers. His greatest passion, however, was playing softball. For decades, he played both fast- and slow-pitch as a member of the Sportsmen of Stanislaus (SOS) Club and with Senior Softball, finally hanging up his cleats at the age of 80. It was on the field that he formed many lasting friendships and collected cherished memories.

Dick is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley; his children, Richard Jr., Kristen, and John; four grandchildren; his sisters, Pat and Kathy; as well as in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

His faith shaped every part of who he was-kind, generous, joyful, steady, and young at heart. He touched lives simply by being himself, offering encouragement, humor, and warmth to those around him. May his memory be a source of comfort to all who knew him.

Dick's life will be honored with a celebration on Saturday, December 6th at 2 p.m., Heritage Church, 1155 Escalon Avenue in Escalon.

I played softball and basketball with Dick back in the day at SOS. He was friendly and cared about his team mates and the players on all the other teams. Because of the type of person he was, I started using his company for my HVAC needs. He always provided excellent service and I have remained a customer for many years. My condolences to the entire family and may all the fond memories you have of Dick comfort you now and in the future.

Richard - IC Refrigeration - was a name I could always count on.
I worked with many General Contractors and IC was always on the top of my list for dependability.
I will miss "Dick"
God Bless his family--

To Dick's family our condolences. We have many fond memories of our time together at Bel Passi youth baseball. Dick was one of a group of us who built the complex on Roselle Avenue in the 1970's. He was generous with his time and his company's contributions. He was kind, thoughtful and genuine. The youngsters who were fortunate to have been coached by Dick not only learned baseball fundamentals but more importantly valuable life lessons from him.
RIP my friend.

It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to work for Dick and IC for the past 28 years. He was not only a mentor, but a true friend-steady, supportive, and someone whose guidance shaped both my career and who I am today.

I am deeply humbled that he entrusted me with both his and his father´s legacy. To now own this 85-year-old company is a privilege I will always respect, and I´m committed to carrying forward the values, integrity, and workmanship that the Imfeld family built over generations.

Dick will be profoundly missed, but his influence and legacy will continue to guide us for years to come.

Dick and I.C. were always a pleasure to work with. His work ethic and that of the company always resulted in high performing systems with customer satisfaction. I usually specified the equipment I.C. was a dealer for as I knew it would lead to a good outcome. Will always respect him and before him, his father.
