Ruby Hinkley Obituary

Ruby Delila Hinkley
December 24, 1919 - July 31st, 2011
Ruby was born in Toronto, Canada, the daughter of Jake and Elizabeth Gloeckler. Her family immigrated to the U.S. where Ruby graduated from Hughson High School. She met and eventually married Stanley Hinkley in 1941. They settled in Modesto in 1951, where he started his optometric practice. Ruby was very active in the community and served in numerous leadership positions in such organizations as the Optometric Women's Auxiliary, Downey H.S. Band Parents Club, Lioness Club and PTA's from John Muir, LaLoma, and Downey schools. Several years ago she was honored to be named "Woman of the Year" by the local Soroptomist club. Ruby also loved to quilt and was a member of a local quilting club. Ruby loved to travel. She and her husband journeyed all over the world, including Europe, Asia, Mexico, Russia, and Scandinavia. However, one of her favorite get-a-ways was closer to home, the f amily houseboat on lake Don Pedro. Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stan, her twin sister Ruth Starn, and two of her three brothers Jim and Homer Gloeckler. She is survived by her youngest brother Cliff Gloeckler. She will be dearly missed by her son, Bruce Hinkley; her daughter, Marsha Hinkley Conwell, of San Jose; their spouses, her four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends. Donations may be made in Ruby's memory to the Lions Club Eye Mobile of Modesto, mail: c/o Dr. Hoek, 1048 W. Main St., Ripon CA 95366.
