RUTH MARGORIE MILLER
JUN 10, 1923 - APR 13, 2013
Ruth Marjorie Miller heard her name called and was escorted by angels to the heavenly gates, where she
was welcomed into Jesus' loving arms. Born June 10, 1923, in Stockton, CA, she grew up on the ranch near Farmington that her grandfather, James Elleson Groves, had homesteaded in the 1850's. She attended the Farmington Grammar School and Escalon High School until her Junior year, after which she resided with the Family of Rev Harley Thomas Langley, enabling her to attend and graduate from Modesto High School in 1941.
Ruth blossomed into such a lovely young lady, one time her aunt cut a picture out of a magazine and mailed it to her, adding the caption, "I didn't know my niece was a movie star!"
A lady of high integrity, she loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart and served Him with deep devotion. She and her parents, James Middleton Groves and Rosa Groves, were members of 6th" & G Tabernacle in Modesto, and Ruth started teaching a Sunday School class there when still a teenager. After high school her first job was working as a Receptionist at the Modesto Beauty College, where she met the love of her life, Frank Cole Miller, who was a Cosmetology instructor there at the time. A World War 11 Veteran, he continued on as the Instructor at Modesto Beauty College for 40 years. They had an elegant wedding in the small chapel at First Methodist Church in Modesto on December 14, 1945.
After their daughter, Yvonne, was bom, Ruth continued teaching Sunday School Classes, while her husband was the Sunday School Superintendent. And at the same time, she was in charge of the Children's Church during the morning service, and organizing and putting on a big Children's Christmas Program each year. Having a special affinity for children, she also was a Group Leader for a Campfire Girls Troop. In addition, during this same time she also worked at Campbell's Soup in Modesto for many years.
Ruth and Frank enjoyed taking their boat out for a spin, and they loved to go to the mountains and the seashore, and many years they went to the Redwoods for their family vacation. She thought the world of her grandson, Paul Line, and her treasured memories of time spent with him were among the most -precious in her heart. She was the type of person who always held her friendships in high esteem. She regularly thanked the Lord for the good things in her life and gave the credit to God for all her blessings. She was especially grateful for the fellowship she enjoyed at Richland Faith Assembly of God Church.
You wouldn't hear her complain or criticize, if there was anything she didn't understand, or didn't agree with, she just said, "Whatever."
After retirement, she and her husband became Managers of Jade East Apartments and then the Bridgeford Apartment Complex. They both were diligent workers, and very friendly to everyone they met.
Ruth was always good-natured and just ready to help anybody who needed it. Often her car affectionately called "Buttercup," was a Godsend for people who really needed a ride, and Ruth displayed her heart of gold by patiently waiting for them while they were at their doctor appointments or the grocery store. She was such a blessing to her family, bestowing devoted loving care on her husband during his residence at Ha-Le Aloha Convalescent Hospital for several years, then later caring for her own sister who had suffered a stroke, enabling her to remain in her own home for about five years longer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Miller, and her daughter, Yvonne Line. She is survived by her son in law, Franklin Line, her grandson, Paul Line, and two great grandchildren, Sydnie and Taylor Line, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Viewing at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel on Sunday, April 21 from 4-8pm, and a graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday, April 22 at 10:00am.
In honor of Ruth's memory, her family suggests in lieu of flowers, to please send your donations to The Gideon's International, PO Box 4493, Modesto, CA 95352
