Modesto, California - Sasha crossed over the rainbow bridge on Friday October 21, 2022 at her home in Modesto with the assistance from Family Pet Mortuary. Because she was a rescue, her age could have ranged from 14-16. She is survived by her dad Ryan, mom Desiree, dachshund sister Strella, and grandparents.
Sasha was first rescued in Manteca on the busy intersection of Airport Way and Atherton Drive in August of 2011. She had chewed out of her leash that she was tied up with and made her way onto the streets. Her rescuer at the time pulled over, called for her and Sasha came crawling over in fear only to hop right in the car, sit in the passenger seat waiting to go. It never crossed her rescuer's mind that this was a pit-bull nor what temperament she had. Sasha's rescuer put her information at the shelter hoping to track down her owners. Three days later and the owners finally came forward to pick her up.
Two months later in October 2011, Sasha must have gotten out again but this time to track down her rescuer, Desiree, at her home a few blocks away. Once again, Sasha's name and information was placed with the shelter in hopes of tracking down her owners again. Unfortunately, days turned into weeks, and no one came to claim Sasha; legally she became Desiree's.
Desiree's new mission was to place Sasha in transitional homes until she could find her a forever home. Because she already had a miniature dachshund at home and parents with a typical stigma against Sasha's breed, her home was not an option. Between many different transitional homes, none worked out, and her options were running out. During one of her stays in a home, Sasha got into a physical altercation with another dog in the home and was seriously injured. It was at that moment that the only place Sasha needed to be was with Desiree by any means necessary. In a matter of minutes of seeing Sasha, her injuries, and her sweet disposition, Desiree's parents were sold. Desiree became Sasha's forever home.
Sasha was the epitome of the "goodest girl" and more loved than she could have ever known. She was the definition of everything good and kind about pit bulls. She changed the negative stigma surrounding her breed for everyone that got to know and love her. She got to experience the best of everything life had to offer her like riding in her favorite boat, being her dad's BBQ assistant/ taste tester, sticking her head out the car windows, and laying in the sun.
Her family will forever be grateful and blessed to have had her bright infectious spirit in their lives. They will miss her many kisses, the kindest eyes you could ever know, and her silliness.
Sasha's family would like to thank Dr. Fitzpatrick and staff at Village Oak Pet Hospital in Modesto for their loving care as well as friends and family who have reached out during this heartbreaking time.
