Ted Gilbert Obituary

TED GILBERT MAR 10, 1929-NOV 30, 2008 Mr. Ted Gilbert, age 79 of Turlock passed away peacefully at Kaiser Hospital in Modesto on November 30, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Carol Gilbert, his son Gary Gilbert, his daughter Sherry Hill, and two grandchildren Christopher and Stephanie Dittemore. Ted was born in Thomaston, Georgia and lived in the Turlock area for the last 60 years. He owned Ted's Floor Covering in Turlock. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #395, Turlock, a past Post Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars #5059 and a member of the American Legion in Turlock. Ted was a graduate of Modesto Jr. College with an AA in business. He also had his realtor's license. During his career with the United States Air Force, he served overseas in Okinawa, Japan and in Merced, CA. at Castle Air Force base as a Sergeant. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he also served in the Air Force Reserves from 1950 to 1959. He enjoyed performing community service in Turlock during his lifetime. Ted was also a member of the First Baptist church. Ted loved to meet people, loved to be surrounded by people, and loved to help people. A celebration of Ted's life and memorial service will be held at Allen's mortuary in Turlock on Friday, December 5th, 2008 at 1:00 pm. Following the memorial service, there will be a graveside service at Turlock Memorial Park, including a 21 gun salute. Following the graveside service, there will be refreshments at the Turlock Masonic Lodge at 138 S. Thor in Turlock. I am so very sorry to hear about Ted's passing. I work at Garden City Healthcare where he was cared for and he was such a joy to be around. He will definitely be missed. I will keep his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to read of Ted's passing. I'm glad I had a chance to visit with him recently. It's hard to believe that we've been neighbors for 30 years. Sylvia and I extend our sympathy and prayers for your comfort and strength.
