Tony Martinez Obituary
Tony Santillan Martinez, 80, passed away on September 20, 2025, in Palo Alto, California. Born on June 22, 1945, in Merced, California, Tony lived a life marked by dedication to his craft, deep love for his family, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew him.
Tony grew up in California's Central Valley and graduated from Oakdale High School before attending Barber College. He began his career as a barber at Mel's Barbershop on 13th Street in Modesto. With skillful hands, a warm personality, and his passion for the trade led him to open his own barbershops alongside his wife Carmen. Together, they owned and operated two locations of The Barbers In in Modesto for over two decades. These shops were more than just places for haircuts-they were gathering spots where stories were shared and friendships formed.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Tony served honorably during the Vietnam War. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of discipline and resilience that remained with him throughout his life.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and military service, Tony was known for his creativity and craftsmanship. He had a talent for carpentry and found joy in drawing and painting.
Tony's humor was legendary among those who knew him. A gifted storyteller with an infectious laugh. His kindness was boundless; he gave freely of himself to others without hesitation or expectation. For Tony, giving brought peace and happiness-it was simply who he was.
Family was at the heart of everything Tony did. He is lovingly remembered by his former wife Carmen Martinez; sons Anthony Martinez and Philip Martinez; daughters Nicole Bailey and Thias Kicenski; brothers Frank Martinez and Raymond Martinez; grandchildren Elise Martinez, Keriann Runyan, Heydon Bailey, Jacob Bailey, Kalum Kicenski, and Brayden Kicenski.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Luterria Martinez and his brother Alfred Martinez.
Tony's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched-with every story told in one of his chairs, every laugh shared among friends and family, every act of kindness extended without question. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire generosity and joy.
