Marie DeSloover Obituary

Marie E. Soleau DeSloover, age 98, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at 10:55 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2018, at Alice Lorraine Care Center.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018, at Rupp Funeral Home. She will lie in state at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by the church Pastor, Rev. Fr. Philip Ching. A private entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.
Born April 2, 1920 in Bowling Green, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Martha (Sanglier) Soleau. Marie attended St. Michael Grade School and St. Mary Academy, where she graduated with the class of 1938. She married Cyril R. DeSloover on Aug. 2, 1941 at St. Michael Church, Monroe. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1995. Marie briefly worked at River Raisin Paper Company as a secretary before spending many years caring for her husband and children as a homemaker. She was a parishioner of St. Michael Church for more than 90 years and a longtime member of the Altar Society.
Marie was also a member of the Belgian American Club and Monroe Senior Citizens. She was a Cub Scout den mother for more than eight years.
Marie spent many years bowling in leagues with her husband and, after his passing, she continued to be an avid bowler. She was proud to have had a high game of "244" and showed many her trophies and jacket. Marie also scored a hole-in-one on a par-3 at Willow Metropark Golf Course while golfing with her husband.
To cherish her memory, Marie leaves seven children: Susan M. (Michael) Spitler of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., Patricia L. (Douglas) Halfmann of Exton, Penn., Paul E. (Diane) DeSloover of Juneau, Alaska, Dale A. (Mary) DeSloover of Monroe, Stephen A. (Janice) DeSloover of Chamberlain, S.D., Donald G. (Julie) DeSloover of Delta, Ohio and Gerald F. (Maria Leslie) DeSloover of Ypsilanti, Mich.; one sister, Theresa Balk of Monroe; 19 grandchildren; 28 - with one on the way - great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Benjamin, Donald, Ray, James and Ralph Soleau and five grandchildren: Douglas, Patrick, Stephen, Matthew and Marie Therese Halfmann.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marie's memory are suggested to St. Vincent DePaul, ProMedica Hospice, Cancer Connection or Holiday Camp of Monroe.

I remember when I first met Marie, Mary and Dale were dating and soon married. We would see her at the family functions and she was always kind and calm, even though there was a lot of activity going on. May you now enjoy your life in heaven!
