Barbara Boyens Obituary
Barbara's passion was quilting, crafting with fabric and collecting buttons. She typically was working on 10 or more quilts in various stages of progress at any given time. Barbara carried this enthusiasm with her as a volunteer for 4-H and Girl Scouts, teaching sewing to the young members. Barbara also loved to bake and her strudel was a family favorite. She was an active member of The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, The Monterey Peninsula Quilt Guild, The California and National Button Societies.
Mrs. Boyens is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Mark) Ryan of Salinas; three sons, twin brothers, Eric Boyens and Mark Boyens, both of Salinas and Nickolas (Nancye) of Angels Camp, California; six grandchildren, Hilary, Tamara, Joshua, Paul, Justin and Joel; and one great-granddaughter, Arianna.
Barbara's husband, Walter preceded her in passing, in July, 2006.
Memorial Services are scheduled for Friday, September 12, 2014 at 10:00am at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Salinas with Pastor Klemsz officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to The SPCA for Monterey County.

Anytime anyone asks me who my favorite teacher was, I say Mrs. Boyens. Though not my school teacher, SHE taught me, and MANY others with all her MANY hours she gave of herself with 4-H. We were lucky and blessed with her devotion.

Deborah, Eric, Mark & Nickolas: Our hearts and prayers go out to and for you in these dark hours. We have many fond memories of happier times with your mom & dad at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, as well as Deborah and Mark at Madonna Del Sasso School. We're so sorry we could not attend your mom's memorial service; but we were traveling back to our home in Ohio (near Nick & Elizabeth and our two grand-daughters).

To Barbara's children, our sympathy to you all.. My sister and I got to know your mother when she along with Nonie Lomax lead the girl scout cadets troop 3106. Your mother was such a caring and patient woman,we have never forgotten her kindness.We also recall her inviting all of us to your home as she showed us how she made her strudel,delicious!
