Barbara Sedletzky Obituary

Barbara Carol
Jones Sedletzky
April 25, 1931 ~ January 10, 2011

Tucson, AZ - Barbara, 79, was known for her zest for life, forthright manner and wit, and optimistic mindset. She and her older brother, Bruce were born to Dr. and Mrs. (Helen) Bruce L. Jones Sr. in New York City.
When she was ten years old the family moved to Florida. A few years later they moved again to Lake Oswego, Oregon, where she was debutante, an avid water skier and a champion badminton player. She went on to graduate from the University of Oregon Eugene, married and had four children.
In the mid 60s she divorced and headed to Pebble Beach with the kids to be close to her beloved brother. She worked for many years for the respected firm of Lois Renk Real Estate by-the-Sea in Carmel. In 1972 she met Marcel Sedletzky, a renowned architect with a practice in Carmel. After their marriage, they moved south to Shell Beach, CA and started building their dream home on the beach in Bahia Kino, Sonora, Mexico. Many trips and much work over several years produced their avant-garde beach house in a community they eventually called home. They enjoyed the local people, boating and exploring the entire country. Marcel passed in 1995, and Barbara continued living in that community until her passing. Barbara was a co-founder of Familia Unidas, created to provide upgraded housing for natives in Bahia Kino. She received the Humanitarian Award for her efforts in 2010.
After Marcel died, Barbara maintained a second home in Tucson. She enjoyed numerous trips around the world with her dear friend, Betty and also with her brother. She was a formidable bridge player. She was also known for telling lively stories, some told a bit bigger than life. A favorite story often recited by her children involved the line: "The skis were in the trees and I swallowed a couple fish!" Barbara's kids also cherish her favorite advice "Remember: Your brothers and sisters are your best allies!"
Dearly loved and missed by her entire family, many friends and her communities in Tucson and Mexico, Barbara is survived by her brother, Bruce L. Jones Jr. of Carmel, CA; daughters, Shelley Farris Riso (Mark) of Atlanta, GA; Shannon Farris Miles (Steve) of Roseburg, OR; Casey Farris Hosman (Tim) of Cambria, CA; son, Kelly Farris (Theresa) of Templeton, CA; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; as well as cousins, Mabel Duke Weeks and Angela Weisskopf of Raleigh, NC.

it's hard to believe that i am so lax in keeping up with the people that
meant so much in my life. it would take a book to tell all the family
stories i don't have the space for. to Shelley, Shannon, Kelly and
Casey... I always loved your mom as much as i loved all of you. thank
you all!
